What I fear we are about to see in November:
In 2024 the Trump coalition =
MAGA fanatics (who are too small to comprise a national coalition on their own)
+ regular conservatives (many of whom pinched their noses to vote for him as a less-bad alternative)
+ politically disengaged types who were frustrated with Bidenflation (many of whom were racial and ethnic minorities who previously voted Democrat, e.g. the well-documented Trump surge among Hispanics)
In 2026, that coalition has fractured. The MAGA fanatics are still there, but their enthusiasm has waned quite a bit. The regular conservatives are fed up that they got two years of unconstrained Crazy Trump + a policy agenda run by a postliberal freakshow of JD Vance's creepy minions, instead of something resembling the comparative economic stability of the first term. And the politically disengaged voters who joined the Trump coalition in 2024 are abandoning it and feeling betrayed, because Trump did practically nothing to address the economic issues that brought them into that coalition and instead spent all of his energy on a haplessly-executed deportation agenda, often targeting people that they know.
And now all the trashcasting grifters of the MAGA "influencer" scene are doing the Viktor Orban thing of spinning conspiracy theories about how every single poll is wildly wrong and how they're secretly on track for victory despite all evidence, while also leaning into the racism that a large part of the 2024 coalition finds repellant.
And sadly, this is how you get a congress full of DSA nutjobs and the stage set for an AOC bid in 2028 against a wildly unpopular JD Vance.
Some of you will find this message unpalatable. But it's the bluntness that's needed right now, because y'all did this to yourselves and you need to accept your faults if you ever hope to rebound.
