I did look it up. Per Grok, if you don't count foreign subsidiaries of US firms, on a sovereign basis Canada ranks #7. That is way less impressive than it sounds, when you include sophistication, and the sheer number of firms in the US & China. Cohere is maybe top 50 in the world

Maybe check with your AI, Isreali is five, and Canada four. Distant - but even China is well behind the US. (UK is three.) Hinton was at U of Toronto before taking the big Google bucks. (Where he chucked me out of his office, once upon a time, for suggesting parallel processors.)

than Canada's Cohere. As I understand it, Canada & Europe are deciding it is a matter of national sovereignty to have AIs that are not controlled by the US or China. So they plan to invest massive amounts of money into Mistral, Cohere & other AI firms. 4/

This may sound like pure delusions, but it is for a very specific purpose. Carney can't replace the huge number of manufacturing jobs that Canada will lose when it loses its special US special market privileges. Europe won't let those manufacturing exports into its markets, 1/

This is becoming a global problem and it isn't just limited to Canada. The big Blue states like California & New York are in educational free fall thanks to DEI & fast falling standards. That means they can't be tech players for much longer, except by importing talent. 4/
