There’s truly no limit to what our students can achieve if our systems and policies put people first. This book is a roadmap for those in power to get that done. Let’s get to work!!

“many Democrats have hinted that El-Sayed and Mamdani are hateful men of whom the party should be ashamed. No. What is shameful is the Democratic campaign against Abdul El-Sayed and Zohram Mamdani.” newrepublic.com/article/2173…

Key line: "“...but you’re also making an assumption that the teachers who are most skilled at improving, say, student test scores, are also going to be the most skilled instructors of other adults. And I don’t know that that’s necessarily true.”
Today in: “implementation is everything”: “The largest evaluation of an instructional coaching program to date…found no benefits to either teacher retention or student test scores from an intensive, expensive coaching model used in hundreds of schools” edweek.org/leadership/a-majo…

Okay I agree here. One of the biggest ways to save money across the whole DC budget would be to stop adding FTEs to every new thing. This is a fundamental flaw in the process for Fiscal Impact Statements and executive budgeting gimmick try to allow them to repurpose money.
Ok, put aside whether or not you support the foie gras ban on the merits. Can anyone explain to me why the DC government would have to hire a full-time employee to enforce it? How is that a whole job?

As a Jew- I wish for a world in which Islamophobia is called out by Jews as much as antisemitism.
I'm just gonna say it again: Haley Stevens went on CNN tonight, in primetime, for several minutes, and said not a word about the vicious and dangerous bigotry that he - and the Muslims of Michigan - have been targeted with by the party that her fiancee is voting for.

The fact that being good at picking fights despite almost always being wrong is a pathway to a million plus dollars annually but folks say when teachers make over $100,000 a year that it’s a very very generous salary for a teacher is truly a statement.
Replying to @JHWeissmann
Anyway, I wrote and deleted a longer version of this, but I think the reason Matt is successful is that — to paraphrase AJ Liebling — he is faster than anyone better at picking a fight, and better at picking a fight than anyone faster.

Ah yes- “date of election” is a little vague and makes a one month difference.
NOW: @RobertWhite_DC puts out a statement regarding his council seat ahead of Election Day. Under a 1970 law, White is not eligible to win the DC Delegate race if he's still in office on Election Day. Issue first raised by @ben_brasch See White's statement below. @DCNewsNow

And remember he may be equally concerned about his staff losing pay November to January. In the past Mendo has kept on staff for a bit to help the council as a while following resignations or expulsions so he should commit to that here.

I have known JKT since I was 21 and he was 13!!! Working together on the Dean campaign. What a legend.
Breaking News: Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) endorses Democrat Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins in Alaska’s governor’s race “I am announcing my endorsement of Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins,” Murkowski told Rebecca Palsha on Tuesday. “JKT is young Alaskan with a view and a perspective that I think Alaska needs right now.” Source: AK News Source alaskasnewssource.com/2026/1…

I’m sorry but AOC would probably be smart to distance herself from national DSA when there’s a risk of them airing out dirty laundry and creating a scene just days before an election. Truly embarrassing, high school-type shit happening with Nithya Raman.

Don’t become numb to this. It’s disgusting and dangerous racism and if Rogers wins next month it’ll only escalate. Sick, sick stuff.
Trump: El-Sayed would be the only senator that will have to go through a metal detector before he's allowed to go into the Senate. I want him to have a metal detector

"I don't give a damn" Trying to imagine what would have happened had Joe Biden just screamed this out at a public rally.
TRUMP on HIGH GAS PRICES: We’re making money like we’ve never made before. They’ll say: President Trump is bragging about all the money they're making while people are suffering at the pump. I don’t give a damn. We’re making a freaking fortune.

this is a critically important interview to watch in full — yglesias has figured out how to have no worldview at all and an incredibly harmful one at the same time. here he argues democrats shouldn’t speak out when migrants are being tortured in a foreign gulag
Always remember what MLK said about the greatest threat to peace being the white moderate. The complete moral depravity from Yglesias here isn't just infuriating, it's heartbreakingly sad. And the depravity gets worse when @mehdirhasan presses him about Gaza.

Help get @abdulelsayed elected to the senate! Jewish safety depends on a real multiracial democracy—and Abdul is the one fighting to protect it. Get involved and help at abdulforsenate.com/vote go.abdulforsenate.com We know how much it matters to live in a country where our rights are protected, where the law applies equally to everyone, and where the majority can’t just decide that some people don’t deserve the same freedoms. The safety and freedom we’ve found in America didn’t happen by accident. They exist because of democracy. And protecting democracy means protecting Jewish safety, too. We know what happens when those protections start to break down. When courts are weakened, elections are undermined, and people lose equal protection under the law, minorities are often the first to pay the price. Jews have seen this throughout our history. It’s one of the reasons so many of our families sought refuge in democratic countries. That’s why I find it so alarming to see what’s happening right now. When masked government agents are taking people off the streets and citizens are being shot in public, we should all be worried about where things are headed. As Jews, we know that when a government starts targeting certain groups of people, no one should assume they’re safe from what comes next. Mike Rogers has chosen to align himself with a movement that is willing to attack our democracy. He stood with Trump and refused to accept the results of the 2020 election. And now we’re seeing what happens when a political movement treats the rights and dignity of certain people as disposable. For Jews, these things should set off alarm bells. Jewish safety is tied to the health of our democracy. We can’t protect one without protecting the other. And in this Senate race, Abdul is the candidate who understands that and is willing to fight for it. #abdulelsayed #democracy #jewish #midterms

And here’s the thing- there’s always another election around the corner. It’s not like they are ever like “now we won, let’s be super bold”- they’ll just start expressing caution about taking on anything controversial bc the NEXT election is coming.
This is the problem with Centerist... Willing to let massive pain happen if it means a win in an election.... Fml

For anyone’s position to be “I can’t think of anything DC Council has done to support well off people in this city” is truly a wild lack of self awareness m.
Both my kids were/are educated by DC. DC approved a new bridge and trail near me. Repairs were made at the playground. DC installed a dog park. DC supported our 4th of July Parade. Urban Forestry is preserving our tree canopy. Bike lanes (I love then, so hate me) …..
