My dad is my best friend. We talk every day, often multiple times.
Occasionally he says things that are so insightful I write them down. I've got a note on my phone called "Lessons from Dad".
These are those lessons, in full color.
People talk the talk about founder mode
Garrett is out here walking teh walk
In 2024, I promised the team I’d get a tattoo of their choice if I was not able to achieve a seemingly impossible, company-defining goal by EOY.
I missed. They picked Pipedream spelt wrong, but said I could fix it if we ever succeeded.
This year, we did and I was able to get it fixed!
This is your reminder to never quit on your goals, no matter how impossible they seem! Huge shoutout to the team for their ability to consistently move mountains no matter the odds.
Need the group chat where founders flex their poop data
I was talking with friends about this
When we're reaching post-AGI where money becomes useless and almost everything free
Money won't be a thing we compete on anymore
I already have group chats where people are competing for how low their RHR is or how high their VO2Max
Or of course how heavy their lifts are
Status will be measured very differently in the future I think
Paul Ramey told his doctor about blood in his stool for three years
Every time, it was probably hemorrhoids, or maybe IBS
So he sent his doctor a photo
He was called in immediately for a colonoscopy
Stage 2C colon cancer at 45. The tumor was close to breaking through the wall of his colon
His surgeon told him a week later and they'd be having a completely different conversation
After five and a half years of colonoscopies every six months, he got the all-clear
He told the whole story on Dying of Embarrassment and it's one of the most meaningful, vulnerable episodes we've recorded — I cannot wait to share this conversation.

Coming for you @jayshetty 😉
Huge thanks to Dr. Stavros Kavouras for joining me on Dying of Embarrassment.
Stavros runs the Hydration Science Lab at Arizona State and is one of the leading hydration researchers in the world. I walked in thinking I understood water. I walked out realizing everything I knew was wrong.
A few things that stuck with me:
Coffee doesn't dehydrate you. Caffeine only acts as a diuretic above about 400mg a day, which is roughly four strong cups. Below that, coffee counts toward your hydration.
Hydration is a metabolic health issue. When you're chronically under-hydrated, your body releases more vasopressin to hold onto water. Elevated vasopressin has been linked to a 2–3x higher risk of diabetes and high blood sugar, which is in the same range as obesity as a risk factor.
It also raises cortisol. Vasopressin triggers cortisol production through a pathway with no off switch, and the only way to turn it down is to drink more water.
Your body knows before you do. Vasopressin kicks in well before you feel thirsty, so thirst is a late signal.
The simplest check is free. Aim for light, straw-colored urine and a bathroom trip every 2–3 hours, or 6–7 times a day. If it's noon and you haven't gone since 8am, you're behind.
Clip below on the coffee question. Full episode link in the comments.
Does coffee dehydrate you? ☕️
Not for most people, says hydration researcher Dr. Stavros Kavouras. He joins @ScottHickle on Episode 2 of Dying of Embarrassment to explain why coffee can count toward your water intake.
Caffeine can act as a diuretic if above 400mg. A strong cup has about 100mg. And black coffee is 99% water.
So one cup of coffee isn’t the enemy. It can actually help you hydrate!

Immunotherapy made colorectal cancer disappear in 71% of a trial group – an insane breakthrough.
But the cheapest win in colon cancer is still the simplest – catch it early.
We (collectively) will solve cancer in my lifetime.
Two rectal cancer trials today, at opposite ends of the same disease.
The lucky minority. About 1 in 20 rectal cancers has a broken DNA spell-checker, making them glaringly visible to the immune system. Four years ago a small study reported 100% cured with immunotherapy alone. Today, the global version: 154 patients.
71% saw the tumor completely vanish. 68% still clear a year later. 76% counting those found cancer-free at surgery. Among responders, there were no recurrences. 71% needed no further treatment at all.
And then: Everyone else. The other 19 in 20 are "cold" tumors the immune system ignores, where immunotherapy keeps failing.
The 2nd trial changed the order instead of the drug: a short burst of radiotherapy first, then immunotherapy with chemo. Radiation doesn't just kill cells, it wrecks them messily, spilling their contents and alerting the immune system, the that makes the tumor more visible.
At three years, 91% of the over 200
patients in the immunotherapy arm have no recurrence vs 77% without immuno. Risk cut by two thirds, with no real increase in side effects.
Can immunotherapy improve the outcome of virtually all rectal cancer patients? For a minority this has been clear for a long time, for most everybody else this was a huge step.
Sardor is using Throne exactly how we hoped it would be used.
There is nothing cooler than hearing people describe using your product to see improvements in their health.
What a great use of life.
Sardor had gut issues for three years.
He ordered Throne from the first ad he saw. "The fastest product I've ever bought."
He shared his data with his GI doctor, who used it to get him on the right supplement.
His gut health score went from the 60s to 100. When he got inconsistent with the supplement, it dropped to 77, then 64.
"The device doesn't know that I'm using supplement, and it showed the improvement."
Whoop for your poop. 💩

Board-certified gastroenterologist Dr. Harish Gagneja recorded two of his own colonoscopies and shared them online.
His goal is to take the embarrassment out of getting screened. A colonoscopy can find precancerous polyps before they turn into cancer, and polyps were removed during both of his.
He joins @ScottHickle on Episode 1 of our podcast, Dying of Embarrassment. They explore why embarrassment shouldn't stand in the way of screening.

As someone living with IBD and pursuing a career in medicine, I appreciate this wonderful series by @ScottHickle and @ThroneScience. It helps normalize conversations about health topics that can feel uncomfortable or stigmatized but deserve greater awareness and open discussion
Embarrassment is keeping us from talking about our health, and that silence is hurting us more than we think.
So we created Dying of Embarrassment, a podcast hosted by our CEO and co-founder, @ScottHickle, tackling topics such as gut health, period poops, erectile dysfunction, grief and so much more.
Episode 1 with board-certified gastroenterologist Dr. Harish Gagneja is live now, with new episodes on Oct 26, Oct 27, and every Thursday after that.
🎙️ Listen to Episode 1 on YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts. Links in the comments.

I love this. Let’s go @ScottHickle and @ThroneScience!
Our new podcast is live!
The theme of the show is taboo health — from death and grief to period poops and pelvic floor troubles. If a topic can be difficult to talk about, we want to dive into it head first.
Naturally, we launched with a gastroenterologist who has done 60,000+ procedures in his career and seen all there is to see.
Episodes 2 and 3 are two of the world’s leading hydration researchers with competing opinions on what matters and what doesn’t.
And we’ve got an incredible roster to come, including the world’s leading fart researcher (yes, for real), cancer survivors and oncologists, a famous pelvic floor therapist, people navigating IBS, and more.
Recording these conversations has been one of the most fun, meaningful things I’ve gotten to do in my career. There’s as much laughter as there are gold nuggets of practical health tips.
I’m excited to share with you…

We built a podcast studio over the summer and have quietly been recording with leading health experts
We originally thought we’d name the show “Not Another Shitty Health Podcast” — because it’s not. It’s a totally fresh premise and addition to the discourse.
First episode drops tomorrow. I can’t wait to share…
