Empty halls. Full hotels. Scotland is selling the buildings that could house support services while the homeless crisis and addiction crisis get worse.

Here’s some context on why residents in Parkhead will be protesting. Recent reports in the Whiterose Hall & Helenvale Flats area include: • A foreign male exposing himself behind Whiterose Hall • A foreign male trying to grab a woman into the bushes there • A foreign male trying to lure two young boys behind the hall • A woman & child followed on the path and watched outside her house • A young mother & son approached at Helenvale Flats • A woman dragged in a close on Springfield Road by 3 men (she escaped)
The groups who are quickest to call communities racist when locals get angry about attacks on women and kids never actually show up themselves. Tomorrow, 7pm at Helenvale flats, Parkhead after three recent incidents. If you’re so sure the anger is just racism, go and counter it. Or do you only have something to say when you’re nowhere near it?

It’s good to see more and more Scots taking pride in their communities and refusing to let them become a literal dump. Fly-tipping has no place here take it to the tip like everyone else. Respect our lands. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Two rapes in Anderston within weeks under the M8 on Cheapside St (36yo arrested then released) and yards away on Warroch St (25yo arrested). Then the media went quiet. No names. No charges. No updates. A local woman: “I don’t go out at night. I carry a whistle, alarm and peppermint spray, It feels derelict, People stay under the bridge. It’s frightening. The area’s gone downhill.” Anderston has a major problem. Who are these men and why the silence?

Also another female was grabbed into a block of flats on Springfield Road by 3 foreign men today. Another lucky escape.
Another incident in Parkhead. The worrying aspect of this is that yet again it’s another young boy who has been approached. Parkhead really seems to be a hotspot for women and kids being approached. This really needs to be controlled before we become another statistic that is all we are to the government. This time a young mum was taking her son to nursery. These sorts of incidents happen during the day in broad daylight, and what’s being done about it? The police are again underfunded, with fewer officers on the streets. I can honestly say I feel Glasgow is one more horrific crime away from the whole city exploding. In my eyes, there’s already been too many as it is.

Lara MacLeod is taking on a skydive in memory of her dad, Ian MacLeod, who died by suicide just over a year ago. She’s raising money for Tartan Talkers a charity supporting men’s mental health and suicide prevention with the message “Nae problem is worth yer life.” She’s already raised over £3,200. Every donation helps more men feel it’s okay to talk and stops other families going through the same pain. If you’re struggling, feeling low, or like you’ve got no one our DMs are open. You’re not a burden. You’re not alone. justgiving.com/page/lara-mac…

Outside the High Court in Glasgow. Same scene playing out across the city. Palestinian flags, “YES IT IS A GENOCIDE” banners, and the weekly ritual of turning up to shout about a foreign conflict. Children suffering is a disgrace whether that’s here or anywhere else. Full stop. But the man in the video is right to be angry. You go around Glasgow every week with the flags and the noise, yet Scottish kids are growing up in homelessness, child poverty, and communities hit by record drug and alcohol deaths, while the NHS that should be protecting them is falling apart. I want these people to answer why they are not standing up for their own in their own country. I’ll be surprised if they can answer it without turning it into another question. You have the time, the numbers and the willingness to turn up without fail. So why is none of that energy aimed at the Scottish Government actually running the place you live in? The problems on your own streets don’t get the same weekly protest. Why not?

Lara Bird, SNP MP for Arbroath and Broughty Ferry. In Arbroath, over 30% ranked in Scotland’s most deprived 20% for crime, income and employment. 26.2% of under-16s there lived in relative low-income families in 2022–23, versus a Scotland average of 17.8%. Across the constituency roughly 10,000 households are in poverty. Education in Angus: Primary literacy was about 78.8% in 2024–25. For pupils in the most deprived SIMD quintile it was around 65%. The question her constituents can reasonably ask is why her time, energy and public profile are being spent on a distant conflict while local waiting lists, child poverty rates, high-street decline and attainment gaps in Arbroath and Broughty Ferry remain unaddressed after years of SNP control of the powers that actually shape those outcomes.
Today I was denied entry into the West Bank, alongside other parliamentary colleagues from across Europe as part of a @ProgIntl delegation. We were held for 8 hours, interrogated and ultimately prevented from crossing the border. I came to stand alongside Palestinians being attacked for harvesting olives on their own land. Instead, we were turned away, with no reason given. More than ever, Palestinians are being subject to terror and violence by the IDF and illegal settlers. Increased blockades, demolitions and unthinkable violence have become the norm for Palestinians in the West Bank. It is more important now than ever that we bear witness and show our solidarity. But we were prevented from doing so. I will continue to do everything I can to apply pressure on the Netanyahu government, and those responsible for the persecution and genocide of the Palestinian people.

Across Scotland and the wider UK we’ve watched Christmas markets become “Winter markets,” Christmas cards turned into “Winter cards,” and churches & chapels closing one by one. Yet people still turn to Christ in their day of need. In recovery from drugs or alcohol, many reach for a higher power. The Christian faith needs to start doing more for its people. There is still a divide in this country between Protestants and Catholics and it needs to change. We are under one faith. At a time when our most vulnerable have little support, division is not an option. Governments are failing both the Christian belief and the thousands struggling with addiction. This is the time to help. I’m not a practising Christian myself, but I stand with those who are. Imagine the power of Christians from all over the UK Protestant and Catholic together coming together for a public march in Edinburgh, Glasgow, or beyond, the same way we see it done in other European countries. A visible stand for the faith and for those who need it most. This is way above any one person’s head and would need massive planning. But we’re putting the idea out there. If people want to come together and organise it, we would be more than happy to support and help make it happen. The faith is still here. It just needs to stand up and be seen. @churchscotland @churchmoderator @BishopsScotland @ArchdiocGlasgow @archedinburgh @EAScotland @freechurchscot @CConcern

The @ScottishSun reports that her cry was she wanted to show solidarity in the West Bank? Sorry no sympathy for them. They would be better showing solidarity up the East End of Glasgow or down in Ayrshire where our locals go homeless hungry and hardworking retailers are flooded out of business due to the storms. Last I knew they were elected to represent Scotland. It is our taxes that are paying for these people who are not fit for purpose. In fact if they Love the West Bank so much why no stay there and let them pay your wages! This is now beyond the pale!

What about the atrocities in the UK? Maybe put some time and effort into fixing your own roof before jetting off to lecture everyone else. You’re not an activist, you’re just another taxpayer funded hypocrite chasing clout.

Public question to @larabirdsnp and Kate Nevens: You were held for around eight hours by Israeli authorities and then turned away at the Allenby Bridge while trying to enter the West Bank as part of a Progressive International delegation. Your stated aim was solidarity with olive harvesters and events in Ramallah. Meanwhile, back in Scotland: Drug deaths hit 1,133 in 2025 an 11% rise, still the highest rate in Europe by a wide margin, with cocaine and nitazenes driving the toll. This is after more than a decade of SNP government. Homeless deaths rose 38% to 232 in 2025. The Scottish Government declared a housing emergency, yet the numbers keep climbing. Child poverty and food insecurity remain entrenched, with large numbers of Scottish families relying on food banks and cutting back on meals. You are elected to represent people in Scotland and at Westminster. Is flying out on a foreign solidarity trip, then complaining about being stopped, the best use of your time right now? These are the people some of you trust to run Scotland?

🚨 Parkhead look out for this man. He tried to grab a woman into the bushes behind Whiterose Hall. Locals identified him from this video. The path from Caroline St to Quarrybrae St (highlighted) is overgrown and dangerous. Other incidents have already happened here. Glasgow City Council needs to make this area safe for residents. Don’t approach him. Stay alert and share.

Yet again our women targeted by this absolute shit. Three foreign men on the 1C at Knightswood this morning, off their heads, screaming at the female driver because they wouldn’t pay. The one in grey then exposed himself twice while the bus was packed with women and young schoolgirls, then punched the screen. Sick of it. Every single day another incident. Another one. Scottish men: if you see this and sit there doing nothing, you’re part of the problem. Start calling it out. Start doing more. Our women and girls are being targeted in our own neighbourhoods. Enough.

There’s talk of bringing the kind of “revolution” seen across Europe protests over living costs, housing and services that have turned into looting, clashes and shop damage in places like France and Italy to Glasgow. A video of local activist Zamard Zahid and her daughter openly discussing the need for “violent revolution” against “imperialism and colonialism” is part of what’s being shared. We’re not going out to counter-protest this. If a location is confirmed, we’ll be offering support to Scottish businesses in the area instead. Need help moving stock out of the shop or just want people there so you’re not left on your own? Reach out. Most places already have shutters. We’d rather stand with the businesses that keep this city running than waste time on the street. Let them do their thing the police can deal with the rest. Message us if your business needs support.

Anyone from the Parkhead area locals are trying to identify an African man with short hair who was seen walking around with an umbrella or walking stick after an incident near Crail Place last night. If you recognise the description, get in touch.

It’s genuinely funny watching these European protests. Governments bend over backwards with policies that favour and appease certain groups… and the gratitude they get is cities on fire and everything smashed up. I guarantee the scary masked boys who’ve been out in Glasgow would put a very rapid end to this absolute lunacy if it ever tried rocking up here.

Locals of Glasgow this is important. Community committees (Community Councils) are the official local voice between residents and the council. If you’re not happy with safety issues in your area like poor street lighting making it feel unsafe to walk at night, or overgrown lanes and vegetation that reduce visibility and increase vulnerability get to the meetings. Your voice on the committee can push these issues and help influence local priorities. You also get a stronger say in how some community level funding and resources are directed. We need more local residents attending and joining these committees. Take pride in where you stay and take responsibility. Want any information on your local community committee? Reach out. Show up. Speak up. Get involved. Change starts with us.
