WOOWEE: Hedge funds this week amassed the largest-ever short position on US natural gas 🇺🇸 ⚠️ The bearish bets reflect traders’ growing conviction that the so-called Super El Niño weather pattern will bring very mild weather They also increase the risk of a short squeeze. Reminder: US gas prices are 1/10th the price of European and Asian benchmarks

The graph comparing Q2 to Q3 shows the trend is getting worse. For now, the market is treating Hyperscaler CapEx levels as unsustainable.

A distinct July 2024 feel in the air today. BOJ meeting. US growth concerns mounting. Tech rolling over. Past performance yada yada yada, but we know what happened next.

Haven't updated the $TN chart for weeks. Love how obedient the price is to known levels. We've put in a bottom. Whether it is the cycle bottom may become clearer shortly.

The huge contribution of AI capex to growth in US Q3 GDP, coupled with wobbles in hyperscaler shares, may spark USD weakness and lower yields out the US curve. There's evidence AI sentiment has been used as a proxy for long-term nominal growth recently.

The key question ahead of the Fed meeting today was if economic activity is strengthening and broadening, inflation remains elevated, and most people think rates need to go up again, why wait until December? Here's how Fed Chairman Kevin Warsh asked the question (put to him by @colbyLsmith of the NYT). Boiled down, his answer suggested the Fed has built enough credibility that waiting six weeks costs little, so they’ll take the extra information. He never says that outright. Most of the answer offered a defense of his record rather than a rationale for this decision.
