Just when I thought scams targeting the elderly couldn't get worse...heard from a reader whose 80 y/o mom responded to an email about a BestBuy/GeekSquad "installation bill." Son intervened when the scammers sent an Uber to her house to try to take her to the bank and wire $.

I'm increasingly thinking that every functioning system has two forms: The abstraction that outsiders are led to believe, and the reality that insiders actually and carefully operate. You don't incrementally learn a system. You eventually unlearn its necessary lies.

My favorite new equipment purchase for the lab – a travel crib to go in my office so my graduate student can bring her 9-month old little girl to work when necessary and I get to play with her while her mom gets some work done. Win-win!!

So what happens if they detect these ports open? It will either block the user from buying stuff, or just note it internally in case there's an chargeback they can see why. So it seems eBay is doing this to protect the site and customers from fraud. But I still don't like it 5/5

Clearly my sister’s paycheck is more important than the world her three adopted kids will inherit. I can no longer apologize for a sibling who I no longer recognize. I can and will continue to call out the monstrous behavior and the bully commentary born out of anger.
