The state provides $82 per student for safety and security, while the district’s actual costs total $226 per student. That leaves 65% of safety and security costs unfunded by the state, creating a funding gap of $144 per student, or approximately $1 million annually. Despite this funding gap, the district is still required to provide armed security at every campus.
