Japanese Americans had their rights stripped away during their internment at Manzanar. They played baseball to distract from the horrors they faced and to show loyalty to the United States.
To remind us of the resilience of the Japanese Americans who were held captive at the camp and the xenophobia, cruelty, and discrimination they faced, Dan Kwong wanted to stage a baseball game at Manzanar.
This year, he was able to do it. He reminds us that if we don't stand up to the hateful bigotry that allowed for this dark chapter to unfold, history will repeat itself.
Indeed, in too many respects, it feels like it already is.
Once again, the President is focused on the core concerns of the American people. Not the cost of living, but… golf.
Trump is more bothered by criticisms of his vanity projects than your ability to afford gas and groceries.
Terrified of losing the midterm elections, the Trump administration has resorted to threatening election officials in California, suing Alaska if the result doesn’t turn out how they wish, sending DHS agents to the homes of Latino citizens, and dozens of other acts of voter suppression and intimidation.
The best remedy: Vote early. Vote by Mail. Vote in Person. Vote on Election Day. But vote. Don’t let them take your voice away.
Eight months since Trump’s illegal war with Iran.
At least 21 servicemembers have been killed, and more have been injured.
Gas and grocery prices continue to skyrocket.
Americans didn’t want this.
We need to put an end to the war NOW.
First, the administration delayed compliance with pollution restrictions on methane and other chemicals, and now they are doing away with these protections altogether.
This will give oil and gas companies a free pass to clog our lungs, make the air we breathe dirtier and more harmful and supercharge the risk of wildfires.
All accountability for corporate polluters is being stripped away. And the health of the American people is the cost. The EPA has abandoned its mission to protect our environment.
That’s why I’ve helped to lead the fight in the Senate to stop this very action – warning that more air pollution brings more cancer, asthma, wildfires, flooding, and other public health concerns.
And that’s why I will continue fighting to stop the dismantling of decades of work to curb pollution, invest in scientific solutions, and put fighting climate change ahead of serving corporate profits.
President Trump says his administration plans to ease regulations on methane — a potent greenhouse gas that is the second-biggest contributor to climate change after carbon dioxide. nbcnews.com/science/climate-…
A champion of working Californians and the Latino community for over half a century.
A fighter for fair wages, for civil rights and for a seat at the tables of power.
There will never be another like Dolores Huerta.

When a reporter is denied access to the White House, it isn't just that news organization that suffers.
The American people rely on a free press to know what their government is up to, and whether it is acting wisely and lawfully.
With each step that this administration takes to reduce press access, it becomes harder to know who has the ear of the president, how our tax dollars are being spent, and who is engaged in corruption.
The seashells weren't enough. Now the vindictive crusade continues.
Imagine the prosperity our nation would see if this administration put as much effort into lowering your cost of living as they do into prosecuting James Comey.
Congratulations to my friend and fellow Angeleno, Noah Wyle, on the new title.
And thanks for making Burbank a sexy place to film a show.
Early voting started in California this past weekend, and there is only ONE WEEK left to cast your ballot.
Head to sos.ca.gov/ to find a voting location near you!
The Trump Administration’s rampant corruption is costing you.
Democrats' top priority in the majority will be to lower your costs and put an end to the grift.
NEW: I just finished visiting the Customs and Border Protection holding facility at LAX.
Last week I went to the CBP facility at SFO with an announced visit. This time I wanted to observe the premises without prior notice. They allowed me to enter without an appointment — which the law requires but DHS has not always permitted. (This is something we will have to insist on in the budget process.) 🧵
Similar to SFO, staff inquire about medical conditions during intake and there are some emergency medical personnel available either on site or in the LAX airport.
At the time I visited, there were less than six people being held by CBP that I witnessed. I was informed they have held up to 12 at a time but that is rare. Lights can be dimmed during sleeping hours.
