It was inspiring to visit Coastal Roots Farm today and see the successful compost operation that has grown out of its partnership with Solana Center for Environmental Innovation. I am proud I was able to secure $1 million in state funding for Solana Center to expand local composting hubs to regenerate soil, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and cut landfill needs regionally and throughout the state. Thanks to Solana Center Exec Director Jessica Toth, Coastal Roots Farm Production Manager Adam McCurdy and Founder of Good Grow Organics Ron McCord for sharing your experiences with, and the benefits of, composting organic waste locally.

I enjoyed celebrating the beauty of diversity, culture and tradition at the 13th annual Día de los Muertos festival in Encinitas! I was delighted to recognize Encinitas City Councilmember Joy Lyndes for her many years of service to the city and Dr. Beatriz Villarreal for her welcoming warmth as the emcee at the festival. Thanks much to both of you!

Today I visited @211SD to learn more about how its team connects residents with essential services. From providing critical information during emergencies to helping families access food assistance and connecting eligible residents with health care resources, 211 helps people navigate complex systems and find the support they need.
I’m grateful to their team for serving our community with compassion and care. Their work helps ensure residents have somewhere to turn to when they need it most.
With gusty winds expected today, please be mindful of the latest fire updates. ocregister.com/2026/10/17/no…
