It was NEVER the formation. The back 3 stuck 4 goals past Brighton.
It was always the quality of our players, the floor of the squad, the depth is NOT good enough - it was so OBVIOUS to anyone.
Sacking the manager, because he asked for some help, any help and telling him to change to a formation THAT IS NOT ANY MORE GUARENTEED to bring results was ridiculous.
Still regardless who the manager is the squad still needs investment. This squad will struggle to secure top 5 or european football this season.
I really really hope and pray the interim manager whoever it is, can galvanise us.. because right now its flatter than ever. Sensible fans are losing faith. I hope the 4231 works, I hope Mainoo steps up, I hope the players respond and try to salvage this season because right now its looking flat...
Amorim Outers are the only HAPPY "fans" right now and that says everything about the state of this club and its "fans".
Next up Man City, then Arsenal. A win against either could ignite the 2nd half of the season for us, need Amad and Bryan back and need to get to work on the training pitch.

The timeline is wild right now.
Ruben Inners vs Ruben Outers, Ole Inners vs Ole Outers. Everyone has an opinion on every manager and everyone turning nasty as usual.
How's about we all just back whoever is crazy enough to give it a shot? No board is perfect, No executive's are perfect, No manager is perfect, what works for other clubs doesnt work for us.
We are unique in so many ways but ultimately the one constant is the club, the manager and ALL the players need our support.
Stop point scoring and just support FFS

Fuck off Gary - you havn't helped one bit and quite frankly Manchester United supporters are sick to death of hearing your opinions.
18 months ago it was "Manchester United need a manager with a system"
Now its "Manchester United need a manager that fits the DNA of the club"
How's about Manchester United need the Glazers to fully fuck off?
How about stop telling Manchester United what they need when you can't even sort out Salford?
How's about Manchester United need you and your shitty employers to stop obsessing and over analysing everything the Utd manager does?
How about being fair in your punditry and treating managers of United how you treat managers of Spurs, Liverpool and just about every other club?
Just a thought?

It’ll not be apparent straight away but this is a huge backward step.
Putting the manager aside, Utds leadership group have essentially forfeited what little credibility they had. The whole concept of rebuild, new ways of working, sticking to a defined plan, joined up thinking from top-to-bottom has been thrown out the window. They’ve basically bottled it, and have contrived to fall for the same external noise that ratcliffe vocally criticised last year. The likes of @GNev2 and co can genuinely go fuck themselves. They will never be happy until one of their own is in charge … their treatment of the man has been nothing short of abhorrent. Relentless less criticism without the merest acknowledgement of how difficult a task the manager had. Him, scholesy and co have been the same with every mgr except Ole. Self-serving and corrosive little weasels the pair of them.
As for Amorim, I’m sure he’ll be fine. A genuinely talented young coach who’s time here has been undermined from the outset. Inspite of all the naysayers & football sub-intellects, he absolutely did have Utd on the right track. All the underlying data showed that. The players were playing for him. The bad eggs had been removed. They are 12 points above where they were at the same time last season. All that was needed was patience & some visible support. The only way out was through. Or so I hoped.
So depressing to be back here again. I genuinely thought we were on the right path. I fear for the next manager already. How long is long enough for them to show the are good enough? 6 months? 3 months? @manutd the only club on the planet who are aware of the fact they need a rebuild whilst continuing to demand immediate success.
Fucking bonkers.

Looking forward to finding out how clueless the next manager is and what the reason for his cluelessness is.

INEOS kept on a manager they had no faith in, openly canvassing Europe for his successor but then armed him with £200m to spend on players he wanted, and changed the backroom staff before sacking him anyway. They axed a sporting director, whose way of working was well established, because he did not fit in with how they wanted him to work. He warned them about selecting a head coach attached to a fixed style of play, which didn’t suit the squad and how expensive it would be to build a quality 3-4-3. They didn’t listen, insisted they believed wholeheartedly in Ruben Amorim’s approach, but then wouldn’t fully back it in the transfer market and asked him to change the tactical principles that attracted them to him. Some “best in class” decision-making…

Now that Christmas is practically over
Thought I’d do a proper thread to counter all the doom and gloom around United at the moment
People keep saying there’s “nothing to be positive about” under Amorim.
I don’t agree with that at all, and the data backs it up.

🇾🇪🎄 To All the Reds This Christmas: We’ll be Alright 🧵
Sunday's 1-2 loss to Aston Villa stung. But those who watched the match, know the scoreline doesn't tell the full story. Yes, we lost. But there were glimpses of something worth holding onto.
Think about what we were working with. No Amad. No Mbeumo. No Mazroui, De Ligt, or Maguire. Bruno gone at halftime. Five youngsters on the pitch. And yet the lads showed up. There was intent, there was fight, there were flashes of what this side could become with the right additions.
The margins are so small right now. One more finish from the countless chances we created and we're having an entirely different conversation today. We're creating chances like title contenders, and taking more shots than anyone else in the league. And we're doing it with a nineteen and twenty year old holding down the defence while senior players return.
Here's the paradox: creating like champions, finishing like we're still finding our feet. The patterns of play are there. The attacking intent is there. What's missing is that clinical edge, that ruthlessness in front of goal that separates the good from the great. But you can teach composure in the box. You can work on finishing. What you can't coach is the desire to get into those positions in the first place, and we're doing that more than anyone.

"attack" is such a strong and unnecessary word that only feeds the entitlement that Amorim was talking about. He cited examples and whether or not it was necessary to do so is up for debate. But making a mountain of the molehill is very much in line with modern day "journalism."
Ruben Amorim has the right to decide that Manchester United academy players are not first-team options.
His honesty is also what makes many fans warm to him.
But it’s hard to see what good can come of him publicly attacking youngsters like Harry Amass and Chido Obi, who are not the source of Manchester United’s problems.

Huge Respect to Ruben following todays press conference - could of avoided the tricky questions but answered them all head on - like it or not he's starting to sound more and more like a Manchester United Manager👏
He's raising standards, fixing the bad culture and he got this one spot on. One of my favourite parts was when he said at times he feels like he is failing or struggling ON the pitch with results, but OFF the pitch he is NOT failing - and he's spot on.
I'm going to try my hardest to stop arguing with the haters online, I get it, we've been hurt so many times, with so many false dawns, some of you are much less optimistic and need to see more before thinking he's the one....
But for me he's got all the characteristics to be a great Manchester United Manager. I'm privileged to have spent the last 10 years in and around Lisbon and talk to several people that know him personally and I've said all along - if he gets given time and backing he will return us to the top....
He's having to learn the league, the media circus and the deep philosophies of Manchester United and he's learning really fast... he's adapting...
The people that are going to look the silliest in a few years are the ones who claimed he doesnt trust youth players or want to use the Academy - this guy LOVES playing youth players, I have friends with kids that have been in that Sporting academy and they still talk about how great Ruben was with the academy - just go look at how many players he bought though into the first team. He is Mr Academy and if given time he will have our Academy rocking again with talents and with clear pathways.
Haters are always going to hate but I tell you what, rival fans are starting to get worried, sensible fans are starting to believe and Ruben is really starting to find his flow.
There was a point in Klopp's tenure at Liverpool early on where the fans all of a sudden rallied behind him and started to believe, he had setbacks but majority of the fanbase started to back him. I believe Ruben is about to turn this corner and start to win large parts of this fanbase back and prove he is the man for the job.
@rioferdy5 said it recently, there is something different in the air at Carrington. The interview with Bruno today, the interview with Ayden Heaven recently, the words of support and encouragement from Sir Alex Ferguson and Ryan Giggs - two of the biggest legends in Manchester United history that havn't sold their souls to Sky or TalkShite....
I'm super optimistic (does it show?)
Haters will try and say its "blind faith" and other nonsense but I can assure you there is no blind faith, eye's wide open, ears listening to very press conference and interview from every players and person associated with the club and I genuinely believe if we give Ruben time he will put a smile back n most fans faces.
If you got this far, massive respect, I do love writing essays! Wishing all Manchester United Fans around the world happy holidays and here's hoping a great 2026 for our club🔴#GGMU

The league this year is the toughest it's ever been. Any team can and will get results against good opposition. But for some reason that is not a good enough excuse for a United team that finished 15th last season and at the start of a proper rebuild.

🇾🇪 The Algorithm Scouts: The Data Behind Performance and Finding the Next Hidden Gem 🧵
There's a scene that's played out in football stadiums for generations. Somewhere in the stadium, often unnoticed, there’s a scout, weathered notebook in hand, eyes fixed on a player the rest of us aren't watching. For decades, this was how football clubs found their stars: instinct, experience, and thousands of miles travelled to watch matches in person.
That world still exists. But it's no longer enough.
In boardrooms across Europe, a different kind of scout is at work. They don't need to fly to Buenos Aires or drive through Belgian backroads. They sit in front of screens, analysing millions of data points, tracking metrics most fans have never heard of, and identifying talent with algorithmic precision that would have seemed like science fiction a generation ago.
For Manchester United, a club that spent over £1 billion on transfers with diminishing returns, the appointment of Michael Sansoni signals recognition of a truth the game's smartest operators learned years ago: in modern football, data isn't just helpful. It's existential.

🇾🇪 Standards vs Process: Why Both Matter
🔴 Is it just me, or has modern football conversation on social media been reduced to two extremes? Either you're demanding instant results and backing the sack after every defeat, or you're accused of lowering standards and accepting failure. As if there's no middle ground. As if you can't be both ambitious and realistic at the same time.
⚪️ You can absolutely look at a loss to Everton and say "that's not acceptable, we need to be better". That's maintaining standards. You can point out gaps in the squad, question team selections, criticise performances. All of that is fair.
⚫️ But at the same time, you can also recognise that Amorim is trying to change how this team plays, how they think, the entire culture of the club. That doesn't happen in a straight line. There will be setbacks. There will be frustrating defeats where old habits resurface. That's not making excuses, it's just understanding how change actually works in practice.
🔴 The two positions aren't contradictory. You can hold the club to the highest standards while also being realistic about the fact that getting from where we were to where we need to be is a process, not a light switch. It's the difference between saying "this isn't good enough, we need to improve" and saying "this isn't good enough, sack everyone and start again."
⚪️ One approach demands better while understanding context. The other just creates chaos.
