I believe it is pulling from the scrape and from the IA to create these. That is why we are seeing fanfics that were orphaned with the authors name on them Also it isn't pulling the full name of some fics eithet

I actually sort by tags and the summary. In fact when I am bored on my breaks at work I pick random tags and read what shows up regardless of fandom or rating🤷🏾‍♀️

also like doesn’t the fact that people Mostly sort by hits/kudos/bookmarks just defeat the “authors can only write for the love of the game” argument? like we *know* how fan communities decide value and popularity. the snake is eating its own tail.

Going by kudos and hits will have you miss some hidden gems written by people who are just writing for fun or like you said "for the love of the game"

So I this mess has made me realize that a lot of people were using AO3 for the engagement and hope to get popular enough to get published. Sharing fanfiction with another fan by printing it out, putting it on a floppy disk, emailing it to them etc has been a thing for decades.

Years ago someone said they downloaded my fanfics to read and I was like cool! Another asked if they could translate my fanfictions and I said yes. Hell one of mine is a recommended fic in an old fandom.
