Five days ago, I only received $27, and unfortunately, I can't withdraw it until it reaches $100. Honestly, friends, if you donate, we can buy food for our children; if you don't, we can't. Even a retweet can make a difference. 🙏🙏

I really want to believe this is true but after seeing how many people still downplay and avoid mitigating obvious things like wildfire smoke I don't think covid being more viscerally detectable in ones immediate environment would make enough of a difference.
One of the most fascinating things about human learning is how we can learn certain lessons ONCE and remember them for the rest of our lives.
I will NEVER eat canned tuna again.
Why? Because over a year ago, I experienced half a day of projectile vomiting after eating it. One experience. One lesson. Permanently etched into my brain.
You probably know someone who won’t touch tequila because of one disastrous night. Or someone who became violently ill after eating seafood and hasn’t gone near it in decades.
Psychologists call this conditioned taste aversion. It’s an extraordinary form of learning that can occur after a SINGLE experience, even when hours separate ingestion from illness.
From an evolutionary perspective, it makes perfect sense. Eat something. Get sick. Remember it. Avoid it. Survive.
Now think about COVID.
You can enter a room, inhale infectious aerosols, become infected, and have absolutely no sensory warning.
No rotten smell. No foul taste. No immediate indication that anything is wrong.
Symptoms may not appear for days. Some infections produce no noticeable symptoms at all. And longer-term consequences can be even harder to connect to the original exposure.
Our brains are remarkably good at learning from certain sensory experiences. They’re much less reliable at recognizing invisible, delayed threats.
And that’s what fascinates me.
If COVID smelled like rotten eggs or seafood, I suspect our collective behavior around indoor air would look VERY different.
People would open windows. Demand better ventilation. Wear respirators. Leave rooms.
Instead, we repeatedly expose ourselves to a virus we cannot smell, taste, or see.
And the cruelest irony of all…
COVID doesn’t have a smell. But it can take away yours.
I learned to avoid canned tuna after ONE afternoon.
Imagine how differently we’d treat the air we share if our brains received the same unmistakable warning.

Here is the Covid debate in a nutshell....
On one side you have "Covid is dangerous" backed by 500,000 peer reviewed publications showing the damage Covid causes, coupled with the reality that more people are sick more often, for longer, more severely.
On the other side you have, "Covid is mild", backed by, "the government said so", with zero proof, publications, or even real world evidence to show it to be true.
There really is no debate, it's just facts vs fiction at this point, and the fiction is winning because its less work and more comfortable.
Policy should match the reality.
the timeline is all Haley Stevens news but I need more people to see this guy who thinks Chi Ossé’s squidward costume was whiteface
This is @OsseChi in a white face and a bald cap yesterday.
Chi is the same @nyccouncil member who called it racist this year that @lawler4ny dressed as Michael Jackson on Halloween when he was younger than Chi is now, and Lawler was not an elected official when he did it.
Neither costume is the issue, Chi; it's your hypocrisy and demagoguery on race that is.

There'll be people who think your emotional injuries are stupid, & your conditioned behaviors are "choices" that reveal your "character." Understand: those people know exactly jack & sh*t about how humans function, & are just getting off to fantasies of their own invulnerability.

One of the most effective ways to keep people from questioning an unjust system is to convince them that their ability to survive it makes them morally superior to those who can't.
Humans are not "the worst thing to ever happen to the earth". Humans lived on this planet for hundreds of thousands of years without destroying it. Capitalism and colonialism are the worst things to ever happen to the earth, and we can live without them again.

The reasons people don't recognize ADHD as a disability are that they see
ADHD struggles (organization, tidiness, timeliness,
communication, etc) as personal failings... and that is ableism

How many times do we have to explain this?
What part of your brain switched off and convinced you COVID just packed its bags and disappeared?
When a magician shows you an empty top hat, do you genuinely believe the rabbit ceased to exist?
COVID didn’t disappear. We stopped looking for it, stopped talking about it, and somehow confused silence with safety.
Stop calling this a “post-COVID world.” We’re post-emergency declarations. Post-precautions. Post-giving-a-damn, apparently.
But we are NOT post-COVID.
The rabbit is still here.
And at this point, I’m starting to think it’s the only one with object permanence. 🐇🎩

I still wear a KN95 every time I enter a healthcare facility.
Not because I think masks are magical.
Because hospitals, clinics, and nursing facilities are where coughing, febrile, immunocompromised, elderly, and recently infected people tend to congregate.
And the data have not suddenly reversed.
Well-fitting masks and respirators reduce exposure to respiratory particles. CDC still recommends their use as part of infection control, particularly during periods of high respiratory-virus activity and around high-risk patients.
A respirator is not perfect protection.
Neither is a seat belt.
That has never been the standard.
If I can reduce my chance of bringing influenza, COVID, RSV, or some other respiratory infection home — or carrying one from one vulnerable patient to another — by putting on a KN95, that is a remarkably small inconvenience.
What did we learn from the pandemic?
Among other things, respiratory viruses travel through the air, hospitals contain a lot of them, and filtration works.
Apparently some people learned instead that fabric over the nose became a political identity.
Can you believe hospitals are demanding people wear masks again. ABSOLUTELY NO WAY!!
Didn’t they learn anything from last time??
Here’s an interesting little compilation of mask studies for you. Might come in handy.

If you're a healthcare worker on a transplant or cancer ward, and you don't wear a mask, you're a piece of shit. I've held my tongue for long enough. You're honestly fucking vermin at this point.

Just found this random clip of NorthernLion and thought it was quite humorous. Unrelated

The only ridiculous thing about this image is that clean air standards still aren't a thing in clinical settings, so the sole burden for infection control falls on the patient - the most vulnerable and least powerful person in the room.

Someone should tell parents that when you “jokingly” call your child’s interests stupid the child will generally not pick up on your “funny” joke and will take away that the things they like sound stupid to other people

I’m still processing something that happened today, and I am fucking LIVID.
People with Long COVID have to be among the most ruthlessly exploited patients on the planet.
The grift is absolutely shameless.
These predators enter patient communities, listen to people describe their suffering, their cognitive difficulties, their desperation for relief… and see a BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY.
They hear “brain fog” and think “easy target.”
Let me tell you something: Some of the most intelligent people I’ve ever met have Long COVID.
Cognitive impairment is not stupidity. Desperation is not gullibility. And chronic illness is not your fucking business model.
We’ve got people discussing serious medical conditions, including chronic kidney failure, and you’re swooping in to sell them $200 “frequency-infused” sugar pills disguised as a detox protocol?
Are you FUCKING KIDDING ME?
These people need medical care. They need research. They need treatments. They need someone to actually listen.
They don’t need another parasite trying to monetize their suffering.
If you’re lurking in chronic illness communities looking for vulnerable people to sell your pseudoscientific bullshit to, GET THE FUCK OUT.
Go back to whatever cave you crawled out of, you fucking vampires.
Sick people are not your sales leads.
And everyone watching this happen should be calling it out.
