On Monday, @Google officially became a #monopoly in the US, in the biggest antitrust ruling in decades. Most past scrutiny of Google focused on its dominance in online search and ads. @googlechrome is often overlooked, despite being key to Google's monopoly, as we argue.

@googlechrome is the most used browser and gateway to the web—but how does it make money? Is it neutral? Studying 100s of technical+legal docs, we argue that Google uses it systematically to reinforce its market #power.

📢 Announcement! I will be presenting my work “CookieGraph" /w @sansib @umaarr6 @zubair_shafiq @s_englehardt @carmelatroncoso at @acm_ccs. Join me in Session 10F on November 29, 1515-1530 to hear about our work on first-party tracking cookies. #ACMCCS2023 #Privacy #CookieGraph
Our countermeasure excels with a remarkable 90.18% accuracy rate. Importantly, it achieves this without causing any significant disruptions to website functionality—a critical aspect given that first-party cookies serve vital functional purposes.
Interested in this research, read more about it here: dl.acm.org/doi/10.1145/35769……, check the source code: github.com/cookiegraph/Cooki……, or if you are attending CCS 2023, I would love to chat and discuss more about it!
