I think the general downfall of Danish CS is also largely connected to what it takes to grind today. In the early/mid 2010s, almost nobody made "real" money from CS. There wasn’t the same financial incentive for players from poorer regions to grind harder than everyone else. It was mostly about prestige / being the best For a lot of Danes, today’s grind simply isn’t worth it. Spending most of your time on CS for a "semi-pro" salary of $1,000/month can be very attractive in some parts of Europe or Asia. In Denmark, it’s bad, especially when you’re making very little investment into your future outside the game. At the same time, technology and access have become much more global. The advantage countries like Denmark had in terms of internet / PCs and general techlogy has become much smaller today. Chasing the dream is fundamentally more attractive in some countries than others. It’s really about opportunity cost. So you’re not just choosing to grind CS, you’re giving up some pretty attractive alternatives to do it. The dream is the same, but the price of chasing it isn’t.
