The 2026 American Dynamism 50 is here: our annual list of 50 companies, from within the a16z portfolio and beyond, building for America's future.
This year's theme is Production is Deterrence. "America's ability to prevent conflict depends on what it can build, how fast it can deliver, and how long it can keep going."
A new generation of defense companies is moving from prototypes to full-scale production, and the industrial base has to keep pace. This year's list is organized around three pillars:
1. Systems: the drones, ships, missiles, aircraft, and spacecraft that deter conflict.

Autonomy software is never finished. Threats change, and so do missions.
We signed an agreement with @Leonardo_live to expand autonomy on the Proteus uncrewed helicopter with Hivemind Enterprise. Missions include ISR, submarine hunting, and cargo runs in contested areas. Their team builds, tests, and updates the software as environments evolve.

This year we brought Aechelon into Shield. Its simulation platform is used across the U.S. and allied militaries, giving human and autonomous pilots one environment to train for the same mission without putting lives on the line.

Hivemind + RBAT: sovereign maritime autonomy on Qatari USVs
At Milipol Qatar 2026, we signed an MoU with Rheinmetall Barzan Advanced Technologies to explore integrating Hivemind on their Qatari-designed USVs for ISR missions and coordinated teaming across Qatar's coastal waters.
The collaboration builds on Qatar's sovereign maritime capability, combining RBAT's local engineering expertise with Hivemind mission autonomy.

Inside Hivemind’s first maritime teaming mission.
In six weeks, two Thunder Tiger SeaSharks moved from integration to live sea trials in Taiwan’s Dapeng Bay. Hivemind fused radar and AIS data into one shared track, shifted the vessels from patrol to escort, and returned each to its assigned sector without manual repositioning.
The same autonomy architecture coordinated two different SeaShark models, creating a repeatable path to bring Hivemind onto more USVs.

V-BAT is now with the Taiwan Coast Guard.
We delivered the first V-BATs to the Taiwan Coast Guard Administration (CGA) with our partner AIDC. A total of twelve will arrive in the coming months through the CGA's Shipborne UAV program. V-BAT launches from and lands on ship decks, so CGA crews can run surveillance, coastal patrols, and law enforcement across the Taiwan Strait.

Powered by Hivemind: autonomy development reduced from one year to six weeks
@Honeywell_Aero engineers began training on Hivemind Enterprise in late April. Six weeks later, they flew their first autonomous aircraft. Hivemind handled route planning, mission management, and communication between aircraft so the team could focus on its target detection and tracking model.
That work culminated in a two-aircraft ISR mission. Honeywell’s model detected and tracked the target on one aircraft. Hivemind passed the target location to a second aircraft, which delivered a payload and returned to base.
