The Sikh Subedar – The Sikh Soldier. A tribute to the countless Sikh soldiers who served and sacrificed in WW1 and WW2. Bearing the Dastar, Kes and Kara, he embodies Chardi Kala – resilience, optimism and resolve in adversity. We will remember them. #SikhSubedar #LestWeForget

Met a 100 year old British war veteran today..he asked me if I was Sikh, and when I said yes, he started telling me about the Sikh soldiers he fought alongside....he kept talking about how brave they were and shared a few memories from those days. He also said he’ll always be

Remembering the 21 Sikhs of Saragarhi — who on 12 September 1897 stood against overwhelming odds and fought to the last. It exemplified what Sikh Military Identity looks like in action: the resolve to stand and fight when surrender was the easier choice. ⚔️🪯 #sikh #saraghari

Established military identities are often expressed through distinctive symbols. The Gurkhas have the khukri. Sikh military identity has the Chakkar.

to the badge worn by the Sikh Regiment of the Indian Army today. The same martial device. Centuries apart. Still being worn.

Today marks 15 years since the end of Operation TELIC in Iraq. We honour the UK Armed Forces personnel who served between 2003 and 2011, and we remember the 179 who lost their lives. Today, veterans and their families gather at the @Nat_Mem_Arb to pay tribute.

Most of us believe that the modern style turbans were introduced by the British for Sikh Soldiers in the British Indian Army. It is not the case. When Maharaja Ranjit Singh onboarded Jean-François Allard (French) and Jean-Baptiste Ventura (Italian) as his Generals to modernise his army, he created Fauj-i-Khas (Special Brigade) under the two generals (around 1820s). The training of Sikh army in European tactics required the change in attire and the new uniform with a change in style of turban was introduced. So, the modern-style pagg dates back to 1820s and not early 1900s and is 200 years old.
