En mi tesis desarrollo nuevos recubrimientos para combatir infecciones y fibrosis. ¿Recordáis la plata y el suplemento deportivo? La plata tiene propiedades antimicrobianas 🦠👊, y los suplementos deportivos contienen biomoléculas esenciales 🧬, como colágeno y creatina 🤓
Mi objetivo es crear una BKPro mejorada, más compatible con el cuerpo y resistente a las infecciones 💪🥳. Además, los tratamientos que estoy desarrollando pueden servir también para otras prótesis 🦷🦴.
En resumen, el éxito de la BKPro se alcanza cuando: las células corneales se adhieren correctamente ✅, no se producen infecciones ✅ y el sistema inmune no rechaza la prótesis ✅. Suena complicado, pero para eso existe la ciencia, para aportar soluciones 👩🔬🥹
El segundo enemigo de la BKPro es la fibrosis, causada por el sistema inmune. Cuando el cuerpo detecta la BKPro como un objeto extraño, se produce una reacción que puede comprometer la visión del paciente. Esta complicación afecta hasta al 50% de los pacientes. 😱
El primer enemigo de la BKPro son los microorganismos, pequeños pero temibles 🦠🧫. Estos mini villanos dificultan que las células de la córnea se adhieran al implante. Las infecciones afectan aproximadamente al 20% de los pacientes implantados
De todas las KPros, la más utilizada es la queratoprótesis de Boston (BKPro) ✨. Este implante devuelve la visión a miles de personas y es el protagonista de mi tesis 🔧🪄. Sin embargo, la BKPro enfrenta dos grandes enemigos: infecciones y fibrosis.
