🔥Hot Take: Autonomous cars don't need speed limits and they do more harm than good to them. Tesla FSD already knows how to drive safely on a superhuman level and won't speed in a way that would be dangerous or reckless, ever. Speed limits only impose artificial limitations on the neural network which can result in annoying, or even dangerous situations. Here's the perfect example from Slovenia: The 40 km/h restriction ends, but Tesla FSD (Supervised) takes a while to catch up to 110 km/h on the highway. There's definitely room for improvement for @teslaeurope @Tesla_AI so the car just reads speed limits better, but in my opinion speed limits themselves are an anti-pattern and the correct solution is just to let the neural net drive whatever speed it wants. But I am sure that's going to take another 50 years for the regulators to figure out. The best way to use FSD in Europe right now is to set the speed limit offset to +50 % and only lower it when you're afraid you'll get fined. I am willing to bet you that you won't ever need to lower it for safety reasons. And yes, that is the feature they want to take away from us. So short-sighted.
