Oh, God.
🚨Micky van de Ven on his heated confrontation with Roberto De Zerbi after Tottenham’s 1-0 defeat to Leeds.
🗣️Reporter: There were reports of a serious argument between you and Roberto De Zerbi after the defeat. What exactly happened?
🎙️Van de Ven:
“Honestly, it had been building for some time. It wasn’t just about losing to Leeds. Several players had concerns about the way things were going.
After the final whistle, I walked up to him and told him I didn’t think he was the right coach for this football club.
I said, ‘Your tactics are old. We keep playing the same way, making the same mistakes, and somehow you expect different results. At some point, you have to look at yourself.’
He immediately told me to concentrate on defending instead of worrying about his job.
I reminded him that I’ve been doing everything asked of me, but I wasn’t going to accept players being blamed for problems that involved the entire team.
That’s when he got personal.
He looked at me and said, ‘Micky, your problem is that you’re proud. You think you’re bigger than the team, and you believe your position gives you the right to question my decisions.’
I responded, ‘Being proud isn’t the problem. The problem is that nobody can question you without becoming your enemy.’
🗣️Reporter: Did things get worse from there?
🎙️Van de Ven:
“Absolutely. He told me that if I had a problem with his tactics, I should come to his office instead of embarrassing him in front of everyone.
I told him we’ve had conversations before, but nothing changes. Players are losing confidence because they never know where they stand, and the constant tactical changes aren’t helping.
He said no player was going to dictate how he managed Tottenham.
I told him, ‘Then take responsibility when your decisions don’t work.’
At that point, some teammates had to step between us.
I respect his position as manager, but respect goes both ways. You cannot demand loyalty from players while refusing to listen to their concerns.
We cannot keep losing football matches and pretend everything inside this football club is perfect.”
New wine carafe to replace the one I broke this weekend. I have to have something to decant my boxed wine. 😂
The monitor on the right died last night. That left me with 3 screens, an iPad and an iPad Mini. I panicked and immediately ordered a replacement which arrived this afternoon. 😂
3 wins on the trot. #coys
The Tel goal against Chelsea kinda reminded me of the times Sonny would make a run over 70% of the pitch, outruns everyone, and scores. He needs to be more direct all the time. #COYS
3.5lb pork shoulder. I cooked it in the Dutch Oven for 3 hours at 250. It finished a lot sooner then the 5 hours I was expecting. It’s basically at the falling apart tenderness stage. Pulled pork sammies for the next few days.
Astonishing we are 4 points off of 4th place. Rather believable we are 3 points away from the drop zone. #coys
FT. Chelsea Nil. Spurs 2. Spurs take all 3 points at Stamford Bridge. I reckon pigs are flying today as well. #coys
