No QB in the NFL holds his position in the pocket & stands in there knowing that he’s about to get popped better than Jared Goff. Such a criminally underrated part of his game. All these new QBs bolt out of the pocket in those same spots, which is seemingly what some Lions fans want. But the misconception is in what then happens next. It’s not this pot of gold most assume. It’s a lot of nothing, running into sacks, more chances to get hurt & missed opportunities when hanging in there would have presented an opportunity. And what are the side effects when QBs so instinctively always want to run away from the pocket even at only the slightest hint of pressure? Goff is able to maximize his strengths and maximize this offense by delivering catchable balls despite looking into the eyes of the pressure. He only takes sacks when there’s no one open and he has no time to do anything else. But fans assume those are plays that others magically would make, when really maybe only 1 or 2 guys could and it wouldn’t even be all the time on those plays.
