James Watson, discoverer of DNA’s double helix and 1962 Nobel Prize winner, made comments linking race and intelligence widely condemned as “racist.” He had his Nobel Prize stripped and was sacked from his job. In a 2007 Sunday Times interview, he said he was “inherently gloomy about the prospect of Africa” because “all our social policies are based on the fact that their intelligence is the same as ours, whereas all the testing says not really.” He added that while he hoped everyone was equal, “people who have to deal with black employees find this is not true.” He also said there are many talented people of color, but you shouldn’t promote them if they haven’t succeeded at lower levels. In his 2007 memoir Avoid Boring People, he wrote there is “no firm reason to anticipate that the intellectual capacities of peoples geographically separated in their evolution should prove to have evolved identically.” In the 2019 PBS documentary American Masters: Decoding Watson, asked if his views had changed, he said: “No, not at all.” He added there is “a difference on the average between blacks and whites on IQ tests. I would say the difference is genetic.” Scientist hated for using science. No one is hated and ridiculed more than he who speaks the truth.
