Before my teen patient was discharged today, her & her mom told me she wants to be a doctor & get her grades up b/c of me. Me!? Said they’d never seen a black doctor nor had they felt seen or heard by one before meeting me 2 days ago. It’s only day 4 of clinicals. Love it here.

Simply put: a decrease in black male physicians is an increase in black patient death. Thank you to everyone who came out last night to view the documentary Black Men in White Coats & discuss this threat to black patients’ health!

“In 1978, 1,410 black men applied to medical school and 542 ended up enrolling. In 2014, both numbers were down — 1,337 applied & 515 enrolled.” - NPR After 40+ years, why have the numbers gotten worse instead of better for Black men? Join us to view Black Men in White Coats!
