Hollywood accounting is when they itemize everything in such a way as to make their expenses seem higher than they really are. For example, if they used three feet of a roll of gaffer tape, they write off the entire roll.
They do this to escape obligations. If someone is entitled to a percentage of the net profit, they can claim their expenses were so high that even a successful movie failed to make money, and they therefore don't owe that person anything.
