I have a new cool handle on the other app and it's like mental health SPA out there. Nothing but gamedev posts. And actual engagement.
Just logged in to recommend moving out and logging out before the toxic slime reaches me.
Cheers!
Indies catching strays for the ideas, scope and quality that fed small teams and solo devs for ages or shined through the gamejams is the most toxic byproduct of the AI wave.
And the source of that are often other devs naively thinking that this will not happen to their game.

I see a lot of people trying to dunk on the game itself. We're not pretending this is an elite indie gem that the world is being deprived of, or that we should be topping charts. It's friendslop, made by a small team of devs who thought it'd be fun. We're not shy about that!
The real point here is simply that the delayed launch shattered the momentum we had been building up. And without the ability to formally set a new date, we had to effectively shadow-drop. That would have harmed the launch of just about any game!
One day I'll be old and thankful for LLMs calling me and talking with a pleasant human-like voices cloned from my family members asking to transfer life savings to them.
We've yet to see the worst effects of them, but this can be said about most of the AI tools. They often have 1 legit use against 99 shadiest things imaginable.
Oh, this will definitely have some unintentionally funny outcomes with significant games and marketable ideas being cloned as soon as they're publicized.
Vibe your way to 50K.

From what I've seen around #indiedev the optimistic consensus is that "the thing that's already happening is actually not happening or won't happen or if it will happen it's not gonna affect *good games*". nitter.cf/SnoutUp/status/2102716…
Great post, yet so much grasping at straws in the replies. It's a bitter pill to swallow, but ignoring reality won't help anyone.
#indiedev as we know it is over.
We have no idea how bad it's REALLY gonna get. But I bet it's gonna be very bad.
This is genuinely so fucked up. Ya'll don't even know the can of worms that's been opened recently with decompiling and game crossover.
Everything is open sourced. Everything can be stolen in a day. We're absolutely not ready and it's gonna be BAD.
I can tell you this will most likely annihilate a large chunk of the indie dev game sphere and people will do it to be malicious.
You're going to have farms/companies in China/Russia doing this and flipping games/stealing popular trends on socials just to make money.
This is gonna get REALLY REALLY BAD.

I'm beyond excited (and terrified!) to announce a new game, Rotten Crown!
Check the trailer down below, and don't forget to wishlist the game on Steam! 🤟

roflation is real
AI has improved so much in just a few months, imagine where it'll be in another few months
already seeing devs struggle with low CTRs on ads, and competition is only getting worse
making games is getting easier but getting players isn't

This is fine. This is totally fine. #robloxdev
