Given it hasn't happened now since 2016 (WHICH IS OVER A WHOLE DECADE AGO), you could say it's overdue to see falling snow in Nov here but I could say the same about any month tbh 🙃

But only 1977 and 2010 have had lying snow at 9am in November showing how exceptionally rare it is. Back to 1900, 1919 would have also been another, not sure about other Novembers.

Well October went well and here's the shots to tell. The sun shone bright and the aurora lit up the night. The Fairy Tree was lovely to see with the first shot shown on RTE. The 2nd shot in the collage was a standout for likes this year and great to see the Red Deer. – at Newry, Northern Ireland

Introducing.. CloudCast. I've always wanted a weather app that showed all the weather information you expect from a weather app but that also doubles up as a high resolution radar and a weather model chart viewer, so I created one. This will be the app I've always wished existed. I will send out Testflight links over the next couple of days. Initially to 10-15, then rapidly expanding from there. If all goes well, I'll open the Testflight to a much larger audience with plans of shipping the app officially before the end of the year. The app will have zero ads, I hate ads, yuck. What will be free? 1. Basic weather information & current conditions 2. High resolution radar with precipitation type, lightning detection, MSLP overlay & satellite imagery 3. Data driven weather charts including precipitation, precipitation type, wind speeds, gusts, frost risks & many more. 4. Weekly updated text forecasts written by me for the short - longer range built right into the app. CloudCast Pro (Pricing TBD) For those who want to go further. Unlock advanced weather charts, including CAPE, storm risk and meteograms, alongside datasets such as MOGREPS-UK for probability-based forecasting. Plus, a growing collection of data-driven features designed to answer the questions that matter. Even something as simple as when's the best time to hang out the washing? CloudCast started with a simple idea: make powerful weather information accessible to everyone. I can't wait for you to try it.

𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐫𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐬𝐩𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐜 𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐯𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐱 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐨 𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐣𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐮𝐝𝐝𝐞𝐧 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐬𝐩𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐜 𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 (𝐒𝐒𝐖) 𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐞 1958 𝐢𝐧 𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐍𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫? The latest numerical weather prediction guidance, available through the World Climate Service climate index feed as of October 28, shows substantial weakening of the zonal-mean zonal wind at 10 hPa and 60°N (U10/60°N), with multiple models forecasting a reversal from westerly to easterly winds in early November. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐬 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐰? • 𝐄𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞:: Across seven ensemble forecast models, 60.8% to 82.4% of members forecast U10/60°N below 0 m/s on at least one day during their respective forecast periods. The largest daily percentages generally occur between November 4 and 11. • 𝐃𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞: The latest ECMWF high-resolution, GFS, and CMC forecasts also predict a reversal to easterly winds. • 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐞𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Successive GEFS Extended runs have shifted toward substantially weaker U10/60°N values. The October 27 00Z ensemble-mean forecast falls below the historical ERA5 record minimum for several corresponding calendar dates. 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐭? The earliest major SSWs in the ERA5 record since 1958 occurred on November 28 in 1968 and 2025. Under the commonly used wind-based definition, a reversal of the observed daily-mean zonal-mean zonal wind at 10 hPa and 60°N from westerly to easterly during November–March is the principal criterion for identifying a major SSW, subject to additional event-classification criteria. #PolarVortex #SSW #Stratosphere #EnergyMeteorology #Meteorology #Energy

Random fact: You know something Ireland hasn't had this year so far... a national red warning. We've had marine red warnings but the last national red warning was Storm Amy in Oct 2025. This is the longest gap in a national red warning in 3-4 years.

Oct 2026 is a top 7 sunniest Oct for Dublin Airport now. Think it's a stretch to say it'll beat the sunniest in my lifetime (TWENTY TEN).

You actually can't win if you're autistic btw. You try to socialize: they hate you. You keep to yourself: they hate you. Like I'm sorry, I didn't choose having to work. I thought I was doing you guys a favor by making it easy to ignore me, but I guess that's wrong, too
