In 'normal' times, the last such run of four+ matches, and the unwanted club record, was in September 2016 when Palace trailed at HT in eight consecutive matches (21.Sep to 19.Nov) under Alan Pardew who lasted five more matches before being replaced by Sam Allardyce.
Friday (11): A 24h 45m travel day that started with the M2 and M11 Metros in Istanbul, ended with a 2h 30m California Amtrak delayed by high tide conditions, with just a 13h 45m flight from IST to LAX in between. A ten hour time difference to adjust to before I fly over again on November 25th /26th for a brief seven week trip ( return 11.Jan) which happens to start with the #CPFC H v Real Sociedad game. Hoping to get to Białystok to make it 10 of 12 in Europe but the low allocation means a ticket might be a challenge. Back to the spreadsheet and statistics for now but what a great few days and thanks to @andy_puttock (aka the Man in Seat 61B) for the idea and all the effort he put into sorting out the trains. Total for the trip : 26 trains / metros in ten countries (USA, England, France, Italy, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, and Türkiye) not to mention a few trams, buses, taxis, Ubers, water taxis and a funicular. Missed out on taking a boat up the Bosporus (which I assumed was a euphemism when someone first mentioned it) but I will definitely be back to Istanbul (and Venice) with Mrs Palacestician before too long.
Thursday (10): No trains. 25,000 steps wandering around the Galata Tower, port, bridge, Egyptian Bazaar and Blue Mosque areas. A couple of beers at the Dubliner before a late evening stroll to watch Besiktas v #CPFC. Incredible atmosphere and decent game. An early morning stroll back up to Taksim Square for a few chicken wings and a final beer in Tukiye. What a great city Istanbul is.
Wednesday (9): Arrived Istanbul Halkali station 8am. Train into city centre and metro to Taksim Square. Deposited bags at Arts Hotel and walked to the Grand Bazaar with Mark. Rooftop beers and taxi back to Anfield Sports Bar to meet Joe and Steve. Power nap (wasn’t sure if it was 7pm or 7am) before going to Dubliner and Des’s Corner Pub and a late dinner with David. Istanbul is a great city and needs more than a couple of days.
