ALT Dr. Jesmin Akther, associate professor of chemistry, recently took her class on a visit to Meharry Medical College to meet with Dr. Jamaine Davis, assistant professor of biochemistry and cancer biology. Dr. Akther's students had an opportunity to explore cutting-edge research and engage with Dr. Davis and his lab team—including Nashville State alum Anthony Ornelas ('22), a recent biochemistry graduate of Vanderbilt University ('24) who will be pursuing a PhD. This visit deepened our students' understanding of the power of scientific research and its real-world impact. Thanks to Dr. Davis and his team for their generosity, knowledge, and inspiration. The visit made a positive impression on the academic and personal growth of our students.
