I’m finding myself agreeing with this review, unfortunately. Which is a shame, because I love the original Gears games almost as much as Halo. Even Gears of War 4 was pretty good, but E-Day is boring me to death with the open world segments.

It's just funny to me they were perfectly fine this whole time with everything being overwritten or removed, but the second it even becomes a remote possibility for 343 lore to die only NOW is it a bad thing.

Infinites story but also doesn’t retcon established canon. Activision discarded these ideas for separate projects and instead is making a full game. Source says it too early but they have heard Activision is considering a full reboot and making a Master Chief origin story
