Anthropic has renamed its $200-a-month Claude plan from Max 20x to Ultra and removed the 5-hour usage limit for verified accounts. The $100 plan, Max 5x, is now just Max.
The plan names are the subject of a proposed class action in California. The plaintiffs say the Max plans deliver far less usage than their names imply. Anthropic has asked the court to dismiss the case, arguing that 5x and 20x only ever applied per session.
The new names drop both numbers. Anthropic has not said whether the lawsuit played any part in the change.
Mike Overell, who leads product for Claude subscriptions, said some new users assumed 20x applied to both the 5-hour and weekly limits. "We could have done better here, and I'm sorry," he wrote. Ultra's weekly limit stays at 10 times Pro.

Mistral, the Paris AI lab, has released the weights of Large 4, nicknamed Le Chonk. It is now the highest-scoring open model from outside China on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index, on 26 against 24.7 for Muse Spark Open from Meta.
Six Chinese labs still score higher overall. On coding, Large 4 scores 48.3, against 48.9 for GLM-5.3 from China's Z.ai, the top open model.
US security agencies and Anthropic have accused five of those six labs of training their models on the outputs of American rivals, which China's Commerce Ministry calls groundless. No rival lab or government has accused Mistral of the same.

Whitehead Institute scientists have mapped gene activity in more than 600,000 cells from across the body of Danionella cerebrum, a transparent fish about 12 millimetres long. They describe it as the first whole-body cell atlas of an adult vertebrate. The fish's adult fins still run genes other vertebrates use to form limbs, and it regrew neurons lost from an injured forebrain.
