One of the most important sections in a TTRPG book, that, sadly, many games leave out, expecting you to figure it out for yourself (from Eclipse Phase 1e) #TTRPGs

It just occurred to me that, in some alternate timeline, there's a very real possibility that the Lord of the Rings movies could have been made with an Evanescence soundtrack

Just want to highlight this fun-looking TTRPG on kickstarter: kickstarter.com/projects/4ph… This is a Māori action-adventure sci-fi fantasy using the Fate system #TTRPGs #TTRPGs #maori #newzealand

From the brief summary, PC archetypes are based on Māori roles and principles, and it looks like it might run like a Vaesen-style "deal with monsters" game, where direct conflict with the cursed beasties is not necessarily the best approach

My daughter, born in 2017, just commented "there's a lot of 'Arya's at my school" - I wonder why! :D

In a recent episode of Between 2 Cairns, a mailbag question asked "What books should I look at to learn graphic design." My answer is: Cookbooks. Like RPG books, they thrive on efficient info design. They need to be usable and beautiful and interesting and user centered.

"Mutable" vs "Immutable" objects are definitely something that gets underplayed in Python courses - it's one of those traps where you could even use Python correctly for years without having to really think about it, until it suddenly becomes a problem
2h of debugging. Whatever you say, that's counter intuitive.

I'm not against using LLMs as a sort of "paragraph thesaurus" to help you phrase things, but it's pretty important that you proofread & edit the output... (sciencedirect.com/science/ar…)

People say this a lot but it's never struck me as odd - I figure it's part of Dune feeling timeless and epic, as I don't think of these as particularly modern names. Paul and Jessica are anglicisms of biblical names, and the anglicised form of Duncan is in Shakespeare
“Guys, I’ve written a sci-fi novel called Dune. It’s full of strange new worlds, ships, and people. You’ve NEVER seen anything like it! Prepare to have your mind blown!” “Cool! What’s the main character’s name?” “Paul.”

It would be easier to list the small number of Starfleet officers I _wouldn't_ follow into combat
Who is a fictional military leader you would follow into combat?

If there's one good thing I'd say about the (largely very very bad) Last Airbender movie, it's that the costumes & landscapes are actually pretty solid

Yoshi's Safari has an anti-piracy measure where it tricks the system into doing something the cartridge should not be able to do, and locks up if the action succeeds. The below image uses anthropomorphized versions of the game and system to explain the trick.
