Every GOP strategist, consultant, and candidate should be forced to participate in a role-playing exercise this morning.
Your name is Bob. You’re a 49-year-old blue-collar worker in Ohio. You’ve always struggled to make ends meet. The good jobs were all shipped to China and the few remaining pay a pittance wage, undercut by endless illegal labor.
You’re a 3x Trump voter because you believed he would finally make America great again.
You put your son through Ohio State. He graduated cum laude in computer science. You couldn’t have been prouder. After months searching, he landed an entry-level job at Microsoft. Beneath his qualifications, but a good start for a smart kid.
Then he got laid off. That same month, Microsoft applied for 150,000 more H-1B visas because it can’t find qualified Americans.
Your son has spent six months back in his childhood bedroom, sending hundreds of applications without landing an interview.
On TV, Trump boasts about the greatest economy in history and how many women and minorities are finding jobs.
You decide a father-son steak night might cheer him up.
Gas is $4.50 a gallon. Filling your truck costs over $100. At Kroger, ribeyes are $30/lb. You settle for hamburger, even though 70/30 ground beef still costs $10+.
At checkout, a fat black woman is screaming at the cashier because her EBT will only cover most of the filet mignon and lobster in her cart.
You think to yourself how the Iran war has made everything expensive, but at least we’re stopping their nuclear bomb. You weren’t even sure where Iran was before you googled it after we first bombed them in March.
After dinner, you take your son to the county fair. Half the people aren’t speaking English. Virtually none of the crowd looks like you. You’re forced to leave early after a “teen takeover” turns violent. A foreign born judge pledges none of them will go to jail.
Back home, you turn on the TV. Vivek Ramaswamy is lecturing the crowd about American mediocrity and why Ohio needs more foreign talent.
Your son grows upset. You change the channel.
Now a Republican surrogate, the daughter of a governor or wife of an elderly billionaire, explains that young White men are the REAL welfare queens. They’d rather play videogames in their parents’ basements than work.
Your son says nothing. He just goes back to his childhood bedroom. You turn off the TV.
Then your neighbor starts blasting reggaeton and cracking open Modelos. He brought his cousin’s family from Mexico to help with all the minority-business contracts his construction firm keeps winning. Tonight they’re celebrating his nephew’s birth, the family’s first birthright American citizen.
You sit alone in your living room.
You worked hard, paid taxes, obeyed the law, and raised your son to do everything right. You voted Republican again and again because you believed somebody in Washington would finally fight for you.
Instead, your wages are stagnant. Groceries are unaffordable. Your community is unrecognizable. Your country is fighting another foreign war.
And upstairs, the son you sacrificed everything for is lying awake in the bedroom he slept in at twelve, wondering what the heck he’s even supposed to do with his life now.
Every time you turn on the TV, the Republicans you elected are either congratulating themselves or explaining why you and your son are the problem.
For ten years, they told you America’s future depended on your vote. Now you aren’t even sure America has a future worth defending.
The Republican Party needs to answer one simple question this morning:
You’ve spent a decade demanding Bob’s loyalty. You’ve given him stagnant wages, unaffordable groceries, another foreign war, and a son who did everything right but can’t find work.
And when they complain, you call them lazy, entitled, and racist.
What possible reason have you given Bob and his son to vote Republican? Do you honestly think you deserve their vote?
Until the GOP starts issuing apologies for running ads like this the way they and the Dems do whenever an officially approved "victim" group gets upset at something, they don't get my vote. No more "GOP no matter what."

You are correct.
This is much bigger than clipping Trump's wings or one's party's victory over another.
For good or bad (mostly bad), Trump had positioned himself as the leader of what's left of the ethos of the American ethnos (white, Christian, English-speaking).
Yesterday was a resounding -- and perhaps irrecoverable -- victory for the other America that's dedicated to replacing the old America with a new, borderless, multiethnic, multilingual, multireligious, multisexual, ahistorical, fake country.
Whether this moves us closer to civil war or whether the old America just quietly submits to its gradual erasure, I don't know.
Whether Trump ever could have met the hopes some naively placed on him is an unanswerable question (frankly, I think he'd have to have been a totally different personality), but in any case instead of the Americans who believed in him he chose Zionism, a cult of personality, and personal and family corruption.
FWIIW, I don't think Trump will finish out his term. Either removed by impeachment or the 25th amendment, or retirement for health (either real or contrived) or fleeing the country.
That would mean that Vance (a/k/a, the Manchurian Candidate of Thiel and the CIA) goes into 2028 as the incumbent.

The GOP panders to every single demographic except their own voters - white men. Surprise! Having Nicki Minaj on the stage didn’t sway the black vote at all.
The GOP continually panders to groups that will never vote for them and continually uses the one group who actually does vote for them (white males) as a safe punching bag to trash. “Stop playing video games in mom’s basement, you lazy white boy!”

You're going to see all sorts of big-brained takes from politco dorks about tonight for the next several weeks, but it's very simple: we started another pointless war with Iran on behalf of Israel, the economy in unbearable for normal people, there have been no mass deportations + Walmart still look like Mumbai, and the GOP ran a bunch of minorities and women instead of White men. This isn't rocket science.
Every other group having in-group preferences/loyalties is understandable. But when Whites get sick of anti-white rhetoric and pandering to every other group by the GOP, WE are told that's not allowed and we're horrible people for caring about it. (Same goes for misandry)

The biggest problem the pro-life movement faces in the Post-Roe World is they have to work to make abortion low status and to do that they'll have to call some women mean names and maybe criticize their behavior, which they absolutely will not do.

Protestant idol worship. They build shrines to political figures all the time. They lost their minds when the left tried to get rid of their statues. They threw out the Church Fathers and replaced them with the founding fathers. They have holy days dedicated to them where everyone gets the day off. They have processions with their images on Presidents’ Day. They call the capital sacred ground. They gave up veneration of the saints to venerate a bunch of free masons.
Oh hey. We're doing this. Again. Really strange how this was never "normal" prior to the 2020 election. Almost like they cheated in 20, never suffered any consequences for it, and now are going to do this every election from now on, because why wouldn't they?
If you go to bed on election night and don't know who won a midterm congressional race, that's normal. And if you wake up the next morning and find that a candidate who was behind hours earlier has since pulled ahead, that's normal, too. (via @PolitiFact) to.pbs.org/4zqnWBa

You guys were just so desperate to not be called racist that you ignored it.
Kicking my children out of the house and attracting talented kids from other homes has been a huge advantage for my household. They've increased my competitiveness with my neighbors. My lawn looks sharper, my bushes tidier, and my house brighter because of this!
Attracting talented people from India has been a huge American advantage. Turning them into targets of racial resentment is a sure way to squander it. A serious agenda for American competitiveness should recognize that.

MARTIN LUTHER AND THE PROBLEM WITH DECONSTRUCTIONISM
What happens when Christians begin dismantling the very traditions that formed their faith?
Martin Luther's break with the Roman Catholic Church in the 16th century reshaped Western Christianity and gave rise to the Protestant Reformation.
But the deeper question is this: Can Christianity survive when every generation feels entitled to reconstruct the faith according to its own interpretation?
🔴 1. THE PROBLEM WITH DECONSTRUCTION
Luther challenged established Catholic doctrines and authorities, emphasizing Scripture as the ultimate authority. While his reform movement addressed genuine disputes, the principle of rejecting inherited authority has contributed to ongoing fragmentation within Protestant Christianity.
🔴 2. THE FRAGMENTATION OF CHRISTIANITY
When private interpretation becomes the highest authority, competing interpretations multiply. Today, thousands of Protestant denominations and independent Christian communities disagree on fundamental doctrines. Christianity risks becoming shaped by individual preferences rather than a shared, historically rooted faith.
🔴 3. THE ORTHODOX ALTERNATIVE
Eastern Orthodoxy approaches the faith differently. Rather than treating Christianity as something each generation must reinvent, it emphasizes continuity with the apostolic faith through Holy Scripture, Sacred Tradition, the Ecumenical Councils, the Church Fathers, and sacramental life.
The goal isn't to deconstruct Christianity to fit modern sensibilities. It's to preserve the faith handed down through the generations.
📖 “Stand fast and hold the traditions which you were taught, whether by word or our epistle.” — 2 Thessalonians 2:15

I've been watching the exchange w/ Catholic priest Fr. Rooney and Erick Ybarra on the atonement this last week. You can see a large part of it in the quote-tweet. Erick promotes PSA as part of Catholic teaching and has written a whole book on the matter. Fr. Rooney denies this and does of fine job of showing that Catholicism doesn't teach PSA.
Fr. Rooney's points in many respects are the same points I and others have made with respect to PSA and the difference between PSA and Vicarious Satisfaction. He makes clear the differences between the Protestant view of PSA and the Catholic view of Vicarious Satisfaction not least of which is noting the entailment of a Protestant view of justification by the former.
The exchange is useful for those on the Orthodox side of the fence who are confused by the promoters of PSA within an Orthodox framework and their spoof texting. Rooney rightly notes the ways in which it is anachronistic to read terms like debt, punishment, etc. in pre-Reformation texts in PSA terms, just as I and others have done, as well as pointing out the actual conceptual differences between PSA and Vicarious Satisfaction. That language can be and is used by non-PSA views. Hence pointing to that language doesn't of itself prove a given figure expressed PSA.
As an added bonus, here we can be sure that Fr. Rooney did not derive his views from a study of Romanides or other figures but rather from a study of Catholic theology. And I'd bet money that Fr. Rooney or other Catholic academics know Catholic theology far better than any of the Latinizer crowd.
But we are treated to other bonuses here as well. For some time I have had Erick Ybarra blocked. And the main reason I did so is because Erick is a time sucker. I don't write that with respect to his character, but with respect to his method and behavior. I have gone rounds with Erick in the past to establish a point, with a concession on his part, only to have him relitigate the point all over again with the same reasoning a few hours or days later.
When Erick came out with his book defending the Protestant doctrine of PSA I knew a few things. I knew it was going to be a muddled mess. It is not that Erick is stupid, but he really lacks the education in this and related areas. The book defending PSA is just proof of it.
I also knew that as soon as the book caught the attention of Catholic academics it would spell doom for Mr. Ybarra. They would pick it apart and that is what Fr. Rooney has begun doing, along with other Catholics.
Another bonus is that Ericks fundamentally Protestant assumptions and frameworks for thinking about such issues would be laid bare. You can see this in the remark I have snipped below. Here the Protestant bifurcation between the justice of Christ, glossed as necessarily extrinsic, and the intrinsic state of the agent is pretty clear. Such a framework precludes a participatory relation that Catholic (and Orthodox) theology require.
But the icing on the cake is the fact that Erick has written a whole book on a core area of Catholic theology and he has gotten the matter seriously wrong. So much so that Catholic theologians have had to step in to correct him publicly. What is more, Erick doesn't appear to grasp that he is in serious trouble both in terms of understanding as well as credibility as an apologist. He also doesn't seem to understand that it would be better for him to steer clear from discussions with academics like Fr. Rooney than to attempt to correct them and be outed for his clear error, inability to grasp the operative concepts, and represent Catholic theology. This howler of a mistake in turn undermines all of his other books as well. If he got the atonement this seriously wrong in Catholic theology, what about his book on the Trinity?
But it appears that the desire to be a somebody in the realm of on-line apologetics is too great and here you can see Mr. Ybarra attempt to double down in the exchange with Rooney. Eventually it seems that he figured out that he was outmatched by Fr. Rooney and just goes dark. But it is too late and the damage is done.
What is worse is the fact that Fr. Rooney is unmarried. He has no children. Currently, Rooney is in the prime of his academic career. He is young, accomplished and is cranking out articles and books published by major academic presses like clockwork. This is what he does. This is all he does, 24/7. I exaggerate but not by much. All Erick has done is provide Fr. Rooney with the motivation for another book project to correct the errors of Erick and others on the atonement. And the more Erick promotes his book, the greater that motivation will be. It is pretty obvious that Erick is engaged in a business model that requires him to engage others to promote his book. He is as the kids say "locked in" and not in a good way.
The best part is that accomplishing this goal didn't require any work on my part. I didn't have to do anything to refute Erick or take away his credibility. I just had to sit and wait. After all, never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake. This has the added benefit of showing that all the Latinizers who thought PSA was part of pre-Reformation Catholic (and Orthodox) teaching were not only wrong, but lack the ability to not only comprehend what they are reading but how to contextualize a text. But sure, they too can try their hand with Rooney or other Catholic theologians on this point, and please by all means do so. One thing is for sure. I am going to need to make a Costco run for more popcorn.
Himself. White really loves himself. Everyone else? If they don't bow before his incredible intellect and his amazing wisdom, then they're immature children who need to tell him what church they attend.

These people have legit things they can attack Acton with. But somehow, they choose to use an incident of her being an ACTUAL VICTIM as a KID to attack her. And then handwave the disgust normal Americans have to such an ad. These people are vile. Never Vivek. Never Vance.
Hard facts.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Court records confirm Amy Acton's stepfather was arrested and indicted in 1978 for raping her at age 12; he fled before trial. Contemporary reports and her brother's statements corroborate her account of the abuse and estrangement.
