On the Binance incident, the largest hack in crypto history.
More than $2.5B left Binance hot wallets in minutes. Over a day later there is still no clear account from Binance of what was lost or whether it is over. The market is still moving on that silence, and $1B of traders' positions were liquidated in 24 hours.
SpireX SI models are in observation mode until a clear incident report is published. No new positions.
What we are building from this: a security layer inside our models that watches the networks and protocols our markets run on. Exchange hot wallet flows, mixer-funded addresses, fresh contract deployments, delegation signatures, vendor scripts. The layer flags a possible attack the moment it starts and alerts us in real time, before the liquidation cascade, not after. Our models will read the chain the way they read price.
The next event of this kind will be seen earlier and handled faster.
SpireX and @okx are operating. Member funds sit in their own OKX accounts under trade-only keys. Members will be told first when models resume.
New meta: AI security.
We are in. Not later. Now.
A thief prepared for 30 hours and took $2.5B from #Binance in 3 minutes 24 seconds.
The model that could have stopped him read nothing, because it is locked on a shelf.
Here is where it would have stopped him. All 7 steps.
Step 1. 28 Oct, the operator address is funded via Tornado Cash.
Mythos: every fresh Tornado-funded address goes on a watchlist the moment it is born. Every transaction and contract call it makes in the next 30 hours is read at high priority. The attacker is visible from the first step.
Step 2. 29 Oct 15:59 UTC, the sweeper contract is deployed.
Mythos: reads the bytecode in seconds. What it sees: one hard-coded operator, a caller check that reverts everyone else, a sweep() that moves every token in a wallet in one call. Not a product. A tool. The contract is blacklisted 4.5 hours before use.
Step 3. Same day, rehearsal on three small wallets.
Mythos: identical calldata, identical contract, three wallets in a row. The delegate-and-sweep pattern is recognised during rehearsal. Binance's signing infrastructure gets a rule: any delegation pointing at this contract is auto-rejected.
Step 4. 20:20:59 UTC, an EIP-7702 delegation is signed on Binance 14.
This is where it stops. A hot wallet has no legitimate reason to set code. With Mythos in the signing layer, the request is simulated the moment it arrives and the signer reads: "This signature hands control of the wallet to a sweeper contract deployed 4.5 hours ago, locked to a Tornado-funded operator. Result: every asset leaves in one transaction." No signature without a human reading that and a second signer confirming. Social engineering can change what the screen says. It cannot change what the simulation returns.
Step 5. 20:24:23 UTC, sweep().
If the delegation still went through: in the 3 minutes 24 seconds between delegation and sweep, Mythos resets the code with a new delegation, freezes the exchange's withdrawal engine and sends freeze requests to Tether and Circle within seconds. Tether froze in about an hour tonight. 700M USDT was scattered in that hour. The difference is not 60 minutes. It is 59.
Step 6. 20:41 UTC, the same key pulls 823M USDC from Hot Wallet 34.
Mythos: when one key falls, every contract that key owns is mapped instantly and locked in the same minute. The thief opened the second door 17 minutes later. It would have been shut 17 minutes earlier.
Step 7. #Polymarket, the DebugBear script loaded on every page.
Mythos: compares third-party script hashes on every load. The moment a hash changes, the new code is read. What it sees: code that reads the session token, liquidates every position and routes funds to a fixed address. A performance tool has no reason to do any of that. The script is blocked before it reaches the first user.
Nothing on this list is imaginary. The chain is public. The bytecode is public. The scripts are public. Every step the thief took sat in plain sight for 30 hours. Nobody read it, because the thing that could read it was on a shelf.
Mythos is on that shelf. Anthropic locked it as too capable in cyber and gave it to a short list of institutions. OpenAI's strongest sits next to it. So the intelligence that could have stopped tonight existed, and using it was forbidden. Not for the thief. Only for the defender.
$628M was liquidated in one hour and not a dollar of it went to the thief. It went to people who sold in fear. The $2.5B the thief took is Binance's problem. The rest is everyone's.
A thief prepared for 30 hours and took $2.5B in 3 minutes 24 seconds. The model that could stop him would have read the contract 4.5 hours earlier. The difference is not an exploit. The difference is access.
Anthropic, OpenAI. Open the shelf. To exchanges' signing layers, to wallets, to security teams. Today, free, no strings. Kill the accounts that strip your ethics on first detection. The thief had 3 minutes 24 seconds. You are out of excuses.
