There is more good news today. I had seen this a day or two ago but now it's confirmed by a notice sent out to Nat'l Weather Service offices directing them to resume timely 2x/day balloon releases. NWS has been on a hiring spree after the ill-advised DOGE cuts. (H/T Alan Gerard).

My God, there is literally nothing left of that Learjet that crashed in Florida today! 🙏
Hey @grok, how fast would that plane have to be going to leave a crater like this with no visible debris?

🇨🇦 Canada’s Sunset Times Look a Little Different This Winter!
Earlier, we shared a look at today’s sunset times across Ontario. But when you look at the rest of Canada, you might notice some interesting differences this year!
Geography plays a part, but so do the different clock changes across the country…
Alberta, Manitoba, the Northwest Territories, most of B.C. and parts of Northwestern Ontario kept their clocks on summer time overnight. In areas that would normally have turned their clocks back, sunset will now be about an hour later on the clock than it would have been under the old winter schedule.
For today, Sunday, November 1, that puts sunset around 5:51 PM in Vancouver, 6:10 PM in Calgary, 6:01 PM in Edmonton and 6:05 PM in Winnipeg. In Northwestern Ontario, Kenora holds on until approximately 5:55 PM.
Meanwhile, most of Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic Canada turned their clocks back overnight. Sunset is now around 5:08 PM in Toronto, 4:50 PM in Ottawa, 4:41 PM in Montreal, 5:03 PM in Halifax and 4:43 PM in St. John’s. All times on the map are local.
Here’s an interesting comparison: the sun will set almost an hour later on the clock in Winnipeg than in Toronto today! Under the previous winter clock schedule, those sunset times would have been just a few minutes apart.
Yukon and most of Saskatchewan were already keeping the same clock time year-round, so skipping the fall clock change is nothing new for them.
Of course, keeping summer time doesn’t create any extra daylight. The trade-off for those later sunsets is later sunrises, and some of Canada’s biggest cities will really notice the difference this winter!
On December 21, the shortest day of the year, the sun won’t rise until around 9:48 AM in Edmonton, 9:37 AM in Calgary, 9:24 AM in Winnipeg and 9:05 AM in Vancouver!
For comparison, sunrise in Toronto will be around 7:48 AM that same morning. Even though Toronto and Winnipeg now share the same clock time during the winter, Winnipeg will be waiting more than an hour and a half longer for the sun to rise!
Geography is part of that difference, but keeping summer time also means Winnipeg’s sunrise will be an hour later on the clock than it would have been under the old winter schedule.
The sky will begin to brighten before sunrise, but many people will still be starting their morning routines before the sun is up. And no matter what the clock says, daylight hours will continue to get shorter as we approach the winter solstice!
What time is the sun setting in your part of the country today? Let us know where you’re checking in from!
