I held $USELESS for more than a year, and throughout that entire time, no matter what the topic or situation was, I always came to the same conclusion:

THEORY/PREDICTION (not important..yet)
The current way some tokenized stocks are being driven to be minted are via memecoiners pushing onchain prices up due to low liquidity and then market makers adding more supply to rebalance the price.
This makes little sense for big stocks with BILLIONS in liquidity, BUT, it can change the entire game for penny stocks and smaller companies to get some renewed interest and volume.
I predict we may get a GME style TradFi x Memestock crossover once this same meme activity spills over to penny stocks, almost wolf of Wall Street style. Now, this could be good and funny at first, but nothing in crypto stays good, and I do fear it could leak into the broader world that penny stocks scams are back because of crypto; no action yet, mainly just predicting, but I hope we can continue to call shit out like @kyle has been doing, let’s not let the e-commerce cringelord types take control and let’s try to keep this as a fruitful mainstream narrative where crypto liquidity helps everyday companies versus another sloppy one where some catalysts extract money via scams.

Hey @jessepollak, nothing against Base but if you're going to compare yourself to a competitor, at least get the facts right.
The tokenized stocks currently trading on Robinhood Chain are not derivatives. They're 1:1 backed.
The derivative product you're talking about is Robinhood's "Classic Stock Tokens". Those are only available in the EU, only trade inside the Robinhood app, and aren't even onchain.
What Robinhood launched this time is a completely different product. The underlying shares are held 1:1 by an SPV, and the debt instrument is what's tokenized. It's basically the same structure as Ondo Global Markets and xStocks.
Funny enough, the tokenized stocks you guys are about to launch look like they'll use the same structure too. Tradable on Base, but not available to U.S. users.
If that's true, then you're not doing anything fundamentally different. You're just following Robinhood.
Five years ago, Coinbase was known for breaking through technical and regulatory barriers before anyone else. Now it feels like the strategy is to wait until someone else proves the model, then vertically integrate it later.
As someone who genuinely loves this industry, I'd love to see Coinbase stop making excuses, get back to what made it great, and start leading again.
one thing robinhood chain has done right is have tokenized equities in an EVM environment.
we've been behind on this on @base and i'm frustrated that's the case. but we're close to fixing it with @coinbase. and when we do, we'll have 1:1 backed equities (vs. robinhood's derivatives) that should scale much better from a trust, capital efficiency, and institutional acceptedness.
