I grew up in the 1970s and 1980s and as a young man in the 1990s and that lived experience leaves me convinced that Britain was a better society back then. Of course there were real problems - recessions, industrial strikes, deindustrialisation and inequalities that should never be romanticised. Yet alongside them ran a stronger sense of community, greater everyday freedoms and a deeper spirit of national and local pride, stoicism and resilience. People looked out for one another more readily, lived with more basic contentment and faced difficulties with a toughness that now feels less commonplace. Those qualities were not perfect, and they were not universal. But they shaped ordinary life in Britain in ways that feel diminished today. This is not nostalgia for its own sake. I’ve lived through the diametric difference between these eras. Britain now lacks a core spirit that it used to take pride in. So where did it all go wrong?

And yet not one word from the ANC or any of our "impartial" and "independent" media companies. What a disgrace that they cannot acknowledge an act of heroism by a South African simply because they hate Israel and have aligned with jihadists.

The year is 1873. Your wife tires easily and reads too much. The doctor prescribes the rest cure: six weeks flat in bed, no books, no visitors, fed on milk, forbidden to sit up without his permission. The man who devised it is the most famous nerve specialist in America, and the women come out of it quieter, which is taken as the cure. The year is 1915. The hospital has a new way of delivering your child. Morphine, then scopolamine, and the mother wakes two days later with a baby she cannot remember having. They call it twilight sleep. The women are strapped into padded cots so they do not hurt themselves while they scream, and the straps are the modern part. The babies arrive blue and slow to breathe. The year is 1945. The truck comes down your street fogging DDT, and the children run behind it in the white cloud because the man on the back says it is harmless. At the beach it is sprayed over the bathers on their towels. It goes on the cattle, over the barn, and across the kitchen table. The year is 1948. Your son has trouble with his ears. The doctor slides a rod tipped with radium up each nostril and holds it there for the best part of ten minutes, and you bring him back three more times. Hundreds of thousands of American children get the same treatment. The cancers arrive in their fifties. The year is 1962. The health visitor tells you breastfeeding is old-fashioned and the formula is scientific. By 1972 fewer than one American baby in four is breastfed at all. The formula is skimmed milk and sugar, with the milk fat taken out and vegetable oil put in. The year is 1971. The family planning clinic fits a small plastic crab called the Dalkon Shield. Its tail is a bundle of fibres that wicks bacteria up into the womb. 2.8 million are fitted in America before it is withdrawn, and the company goes bankrupt under the claims. It had been sold as safe and superior. The year is 1983. The doctor says your arteries are the butter's fault. The dripping tin goes in the bin, the yolks go to the dog, the margarine goes in the fridge, and you have the heart attack anyway, on skimmed milk, having done everything right. The year is 2001. Your 15-year-old is low, and the doctor prescribes Paxil, because the trial in the journal says it is effective and well tolerated in adolescents. The raw data, reanalysed 14 years later, shows more suicidal thinking on the drug than on the sugar pill. The company pays $3 billion to settle. Nobody rings the house. The year is 2009. The government has spent around £500 million stockpiling Tamiflu for the pandemic, on the strength of the manufacturer's trials. When the trials are finally prised loose five years later, the drug shortens flu by about half a day and nothing shows it keeps anyone out of hospital. The stockpile goes out of date in a warehouse. The year is 2026. The doctor has ten minutes and a screen. The number is high, so the tablet is for life. The weight is high, so the injection is for life. The meat is bad for the planet and the oil is good for the heart, and the person in the chair is as certain as everyone who ever sat in it. Every one of those was settled, by a committee, in a journal, with a doubter somewhere being laughed at. The rest cure, the straps, the fog, the rod, the formula, the crab, the margarine, the trial, the stockpile. All of it certain, all of it printed, all of it done to somebody who had asked for help. You were never the one who was wrong. You were the one it was done to, and the only person in the story who did as they were told every single time. The apology comes a generation late, in a footnote, addressed to nobody. The next one is being drafted now.

The journalists in Joburg all vote for the ANC, RISE and Aljama. The handful who vote for the DA or the FF literally can’t say so out loud. Could not care less what they think and neither should you. We’re where we are because of people like them.

Taxis blocking the N2. Why, you ask? Because one Taxi organisation is fighting with another Taxi organisation. So they take it out on the citizens. The corrupt @MYANC government would never act against them, because they are just as evil.

Farm murders in South Africa are not ordinary crime. They form a distinct, recurring pattern of extreme, organized violence against isolated rural farmers that goes well beyond typical robbery or opportunistic killing. South African Police Service data show farming households are attacked at roughly twice the rate of other households, while a farm attack is about 6.7 times more likely to end in murder than an armed house or business robbery elsewhere in the country. AfriForum’s examination of dozens of cases between 2019 and 2025 documents recurring torture like the use of boiling water, blowtorches, prolonged beatings, strangulation, mutilation.

Guys, as South Africans, we have failed Jacinta. And Jacinta is not fighting only for her family. She and her husband are fighting for the future of all our children and the country they will inherit. If you think you are somehow exempt from what is happening, fine. Maybe you believe she is not fighting for you. But she is fighting for your children, too, children who may soon inherit a country that has failed to protect their future. Now she is being targeted because she is always at the forefront. Imagine what would happen if we all stood together in solidarity to save our country. Imagine if we stopped being keyboard warriors, put down our phones and actually showed up. Imagine if South Africans across the country stood together instead of leaving the same people to carry this burden alone. Jacinta is not fighting a personal battle. She is fighting for all of us. And we have failed her. We have failed them. This is why Ramaphosa and this government seem to believe they can deploy soldiers and police to intimidate people who are marching and speaking out. Time and again, it feels as though the burden of taking to the streets falls on the same people, particularly in KZN, while the rest of the country watches from behind their screens. What exactly are we waiting for? Must we wait until our children are living in fear in their own neighbourhoods? Must we wait until people are pointing guns at us, until more lives are lost, before we decide that enough is enough? Why must it get to that point before we stand up and demand accountability and the protection of our communities? And Jacinta is right to question whether ordinary South Africans still have a voice in their own country. Why does it sometimes feel as though the government is more concerned about managing the sensitivities of foreign nationals than addressing the fears and concerns of the citizens it was elected to serve? What is happening to the social contract between this government and the people of South Africa? Nobody should have to carry this fight alone. We cannot keep watching a handful of people speak out while the rest of us express our outrage online and then carry on with our lives as though nothing is happening. GUYS, WE NEED TO WAKE THE FUCK UP! We need to stand together, organise, march peacefully, demand accountability and insist that our government puts the safety and interests of the people it serves at the centre of its decisions. Because by the time we all decide that enough is enough, we may have lost far more than we ever imagined. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

ATM Accuses Government Of Trying To Silence Frustrated South Africans Through Court Interdict Against March And March Movement As Unemployment And Illegal Immigration Remain Major Concerns The African Transformation Movement (ATM) has raised concerns over an interim court interdict against the March and March Movement, accusing the government of restricting citizens’ voices instead of addressing their grievances. In a statement issued on Thursday, 29 October 2026, the party said the interdict came as citizens took to the streets over the government’s failure to address pressing national challenges. “South Africa’s Constitution is not a document of convenience, to be celebrated when it serves those in power and disregarded when ordinary citizens exercise their democratic rights,” the ATM said. The party referred to Section 17 of the Constitution, which guarantees everyone the right to assemble, demonstrate, picket and present petitions peacefully and unarmed. The ATM said the issues raised by March and March, including illegal immigration, inadequate border enforcement, unemployment and the failure of state institutions to enforce existing legislation, were legitimate matters of public concern. “An interdict will not create employment, secure our borders, strengthen immigration enforcement or restore public confidence in failing institutions,” the party said, arguing that citizens should be allowed to raise grievances and demand accountability. The party called on the government and law enforcement agencies to respect constitutional rights, distinguish peaceful demonstrations from criminal conduct and engage meaningfully with communities. It also warned against using court proceedings to silence public concerns, stating: “A government that listens to its people has no reason to fear their voices.” The statement was issued by ATM national spokesperson Zama Ntshona.

The National Party leaders did not possess some magical, predictive genius. They simply understood a basic, universal law of civilization: if you run a country using rigorous administrative discipline, strict engineering standards, absolute meritocracy within your civil service, and a zero-tolerance policy for infrastructural neglect, the lights stay on, the trains move, and the currency holds value. That isn't a "Western" secret or an apartheid phenomenon; it is the baseline requirement for running any industrial economy, whether in Zurich, Tokyo, or Pretoria.
