But you absolutely do "publish speculation or unverified information" and have an extensive record of doing such. So it's not that you don't do this per se, it's just that you become super cautious when it comes to implications for a certain specific side of a political issue.

Tim, your skin is thinner than I expected. Is it that much of a stretch for progressives to conclude that the pundit who was a Republican until 2016 is partial to GOP talking points about Hasan/the pro-Palestine left, especially when she parroted those exact points for months?

No one in Destiny's community has called me a "Jeet" can't say the same for Hasan's community.
I can't speak for the past, nor can I speak for what happens in spaces I'm largely inexperienced with (gaming; streaming). I can, however, speak to the present and my own experience.
Destiny's largely-male community has treated me with more respect--"as a woman"--than I have received from men in numerous social spheres--both online and in real life.
They engage with me as an intellectual equal. They don't mansplain. They ask me questions. When I go on the streams, they let me talk so much I leave feeling I talked TOO much.
Not because they make me feel that way, but because I'm given more space to express myself than I'm typically given in male interactions, whether it's a date or an academic seminar.
Furthermore, they have DEFENDED me from *actual* misogynistic bullying. Not all liberal men have.
For example, one of the most commonly used smears against me--by Piker's community--is that I am "mentally ill" (this is used against others as well).
A few liberal men in my circles have fallen prey to letting this characterization slip into their thinking. They treat me--sometimes in subtle ways--as if I am hyper-reactive or even delusional.
Destiny's community, on the other hand, not only defends me, but tackles the "mentally ill" mischaracterization on a deeper level. They recognize the misogyny for what it is, as well as how it operates.
Meanwhile, Hasan's community doxxes women. They attempt to harass us into despair, public humiliation, and silence. They attempt to undermine our minds to our friends and audiences. They put us on lists inciting violence, including sexual violence.
Note, also, this is a tactic. Destiny's community stands up against misogyny. Quite strongly.
So what do you do?
You call Destiny a misogynist, undermining the movement and providing protection for a man (Piker) who encourages the targeted harassment of liberal women who criticize him.
Resist the PsychOps.

lol what is he talking about, if you put the rape comments he made in context it honestly sounds even worse; I love how he can just try to rewrite history even though we have all the footage of him saying this insane stuff, but his side (see: @WajahatAli, @mehdirhasan, @EmmaVigeland, etc...) will endlessly sweep for it in the hopes that you never actually go out and see it yourself.
Hasan addresses a bunch of his s-x related allegations that he blames on Destiny for concocting
Also calls out Ethan Klein, Shannon Watts, Magdi Jacobs, and more for perpetuating those allegations (ie br*thel)
"My f'in haters love to be like, oh Hasan loves r-pe, Hasan loves when rich people get r-pd or whatever was me criticizing a f'in university that literally destoryed Title IX..I was saying from a utilitarian purpose, if you want to cordon and sanitaire all these f'in r-psts, they're self selecting to go to the pro date r-pe campus"
"The f'in br*thl thing, omg unlimited levels of slander from these f'in freaks..many of these instances of slander have been concocted by a s-p*st who is currently in active court case for distributing revenge p-rn in exchange for CS- AM..anytime Destiny gets involved in some crazy incident..they will turn around and they will say, no Hasan does this too..think about how little they give a sh*t about this stuff"
"He turns around and says, well here's a Cosmopolitan where Hasan was the recipient of unsolicited n*des, both men and women by the way..and they were like, well that's the same thing as distributing revenge p-rn..it's not the same at all"
"It's a legal br*thel, it's legal in Germany..they'll say Artemis was raided for s-traff*ckng, then they'll turn it into child s-traff*ckng..meanwhile, Artemis wasn't even raided for that. It was raided for tax evasion..and they actually successfully sued the government"
"I was bringing it up bc Shannon Watts and Magdi Jacobs or whatever her name is, have been attacking Mehdi Hasan over it..bc they're now a part of the S-P*sts cult..f'in freaks..he (Ethan Klein) knows it was bs. He debunked the br*thel lies while sitting next to me. But bc of his pro Israel stance..he f'in turned around and claimed that I had participated in this heinous process"
"I've learned..being a part of this industry..there are a lot of people with like genuine personality disorders, and they'll f'in turn on you..people that you previously thought were your friends will literally directly contradict previous statements..in an effort to further defame former podcasts cohosts. It's an unbelievably narcissistic business"

The amount of gaslighting from these losers is incredible.
YOU guys claimed that YOU and your insane pro-Hamas, anti-establishment, pro-Socialism, anti-Democrat position was representative of the base, and YOU guys were happy and excited to throw your weight around wherever you could. You were happy to do it when you were fighting Democrats, but now that the Republicans have gotten a hold of your stupid rhetoric, what do you do?
CONTINUE TO FIGHT DEMOCRATS.
YOU all claimed over and over again that the Dems were out of touch and you had your thumb on the pulse of American politics, so go take your understanding and fight the Republicans! Good luck!
The thing is, @SamSeder is correct. You literally used your media outlet to try to turn the election into a referendum on Hasan Piker. Own it, and maybe apologize for it.

Hi @mehdirhasan, any reason why you left out the part of the Haaretz article that clarifies Sinwar equivocated on the term "civilian" to mean "not between age 18-50 (the vast majority of the hostages)"?
The way you presented it suggests if Israel agreed to the terms then virtually all, if not the vast majority of hostages would be released. But this is simply not true at all. If Israel agreed to such terms, the vast majority of the hostages (and civilian hostages by IHL definition) would not have been released on such an offer.
And that's not even getting into all the facts in dispute here and Haaretz's own journalists having a tendency to blatantly disregard truth in their reporting (happy to discuss this in detail), this is just what Haaretz admits!
Yeah no one is buying your BS anymore. From Israel’s own press:

Hamas offered to release them on day one, as now know, and Israel refused because they wanted war and vengeance over saving the hostages. This is now well established and proven, despite the lies from shills like you over the past three years

This is simply false. There was no documented “day one” offer by Hamas to release all the hostages “unconditionally.”
Contemporary reporting describes negotiations over exchanges: Israeli women and children for Palestinian terrorists, and later broader releases in return for pauses, additional terrorist prisoners and other concessions. Nothing was unconditional.
I say this as a hostage family member who served as an international envoy for the hostage families and was privy to some of the discourse behind closed doors with relevant stakeholders. Those conversations concerned negotiations, conditions, categories of hostages and concessions, not the simplistic narrative you now declare “well established and proven.”
Hamas did not even treat many civilian men as civilians. My brother-in-law, Omri Miran, was a civilian father kidnapped from his home in Kibbutz Nahal Oz, in front of his wife and two little girls. He was held for 738 days, physically tortured, deprived of food and water, and psychologically abused.
Hamas used Omri and other beautiful human beings as bargaining chips: women, children, the elderly, civilian men, soldiers, Israelis and foreigners. Taking civilians hostage is a war crime, and captured soldiers cannot lawfully be held as hostages to coerce concessions either.
There is plenty to criticise about the Israeli government’s conduct, including decisions made during negotiations, even if those were ultimately decisions for a democratically elected government to make. Hostage families have hardly been silent about them, and many of us still demand accountability and the establishment of a national commission of inquiry.
But none of that transfers responsibility from the perpetrators: Hamas and its accomplices, and the state actors that funded and sponsored their activities.
That is what makes your rhetoric so repulsive. You erase Hamas’s agency, recast conditional negotiations as an unconditional “offer to release them on day one,” and shift responsibility from the hostage-takers to the society they attacked.
Hamas kidnapped these people, categorised them according to their value, demanded concessions for them, abused them and held people like Omri for years.
Turning that into “Israel refused to save them because it wanted vengeance” is not an established fact. It is an inversion of perpetrator and victim that sanitises Hamas’s responsibility for one of its most grotesque crimes, a distortion you have pushed in bad faith since the war Hamas launched on October 7.
