In 1913, Einstein used the hole argument to argue against generally covariant equations for gravity.
Imagine a region of spacetime containing no matter. A smooth transformation leaves the metric unchanged outside the region but changes its values at the same spacetime points inside. Both metrics satisfy the field equations. Einstein thought this meant the equations could not determine a unique gravitational field.
By late 1915, he had abandoned the objection. The two metrics can describe the same spacetime geometry. Their mathematical difference need not correspond to any observable difference. The argument turned on whether spacetime points have an identity independently of the physical fields.

tiger, ST-15, and a cub of ST-27, approximately two years old, have been missing from Sariska for the past one month. Neither of these male tigers is appearing on camera traps, nor have any pugmarks of them been found. Although the tiger monitoring team of the forest department claims that pugmarks of the cub were found in the Akbarpur range, I doubt the authenticity of this claim.
The presence of 56 tigers in Sariska may be considered an achievement. However, the disappearance of a tiger that controlled the largest territory in this forest is extremely concerning. This can only be described as a failure of the monitoring system. After the 2008 relocation, the tiger population in this forest has grown at a very slow pace and has now reached 56, comprising 11 male tigers, 18 females, and 27 cubs.
This success will continue only when the patrolling team knows the whereabouts of every tiger, and the reason for any disappearance is also clearly established. Here, an increase in numbers can be called a success, but a disappearance can only be seen as a failure of the system.
What is surprising is that ST-21 and ST-25 are now moving around in the territory of the missing tiger. This is not a rapid process; it takes at least two months or more for such a change to occur.
An additional forest team is engaged in searching for both these tigers, but success still seems distant.
Some questions arise in the mind: Have both tigers fallen into the trap of a poaching gang? Were they involved in a territorial fight? Have these tigers moved to some other area within the forest?
Finding a tiger in this forest is not an extremely difficult task. On the contrary, this forest is a wildlife island where a tiger either dies or is found in some corner of the same forest. The possibility of it leaving via a corridor is zero, because there is no connectivity here. #sariskatigerreserve #tigermonitoring #tigermissing #bigcatsafety #tigerprotection

Elon Musk in new interview on Starship:
“That (flight 14) engine glitch doesn’t seem to be too much of an issue. The heat shield was robust. Flight 15 hopefully in 4-6 weeks. The big milestone coming up, which is hopefully flight 15, is to catch the ship, making it the first full recovery of an orbital class rocket.”

New orphan alert: Meet Sibu.
Speared in the shoulder, this shy girl has healed both emotionally and physically since arriving in our care. Along the way, she’s reminded us all that while milk and medicine play a vital role in an orphaned elephant’s survival, it’s the presence of a loving family – both elephant and human – that can make all the difference.
Sibu’s story began nine months ago, when the Kenya Wildlife Service alerted us to a lone orphaned elephant. Our pilot and ground teams raced to rescue her, and vets operated to treat her septic spear wound. Now, our Keepers are hand-raising her.
It’s been quite a journey – and you can be part of the next chapter by adopting Sibu and helping fund the care that orphaned elephants like her need to rejoin the wild.

This is what hitting the atmosphere at about 35 times the speed of sound looks like from the inside. Artemis II, April 10, 2026. Four astronauts on their way back from a flight around the Moon. Most of it is sped up 10x, but I dropped to real time for the best of the plasma so you can hear the thrusters firing. Every time the view jumps, that's them. And that tiny dot at the very start? That's the Moon, setting behind Earth. Video: NASA

Overlapping waves can reinforce or cancel each other. In a linear system, their displacements add at every point.
Equal waves arriving in step produce twice the amplitude. Arriving half a cycle apart, they can cancel completely where they overlap.
Cancellation of displacement does not mean energy disappears; interference changes how energy is distributed. This principle explains bright and dark fringes in optics, standing waves, and noise cancellation.

Saturn on October 3-4th, 2026. Good seeing. Tethys and its shadow in transit. Some faint spokes are discernible. A few of the moons are also in view. The rings are particularly bright due to the planet being at opposition.
