[3/4🧵]Responding to the company’s advocacy initiatives on the “standardisation of GX steel” outlined in its presentation, investors raised questions about a potential risk of a narrow reliance on a “mass balance” accounting approach.

For decades, residents of Vanderbijlpark, a small industrial town in South Africa, have suffered from air pollution from local industrial carbon emitters, such as steelmaker @ArcelorMittal South Africa.
[ 🧵2/3]Even in the shadow of environmental harm, our late comrade, Samson Mokoena, remained committed to fighting for justice, for people, and for a future where steelmaking doesn’t sacrifice lives or the planet.
