On Twitter so little I didn’t know I was somehow following a “fighting” account: horrible videos, mostly of kids, in major brawls. This platform was once so awesome to connect with scientific & non-scientific communities regarding public health & health questions. Shameful

Years ago I was hospitalized with a severe illness. Insurance company was willing to spend the money to send someone IN PERSON to my room to say their doctors determined I could be treated at home (as I looked at everything I was hooked up to like “uhh…”)

He told me they would appeal (3 docs wrote appeals: a dept chair, section chief, & another attending). He also told me if they denied it I wouldn’t pay, if he had to he would. Insurance company docs were willing to let who knows what happen to me from afar
As @DrJaimeFriedman says, these docs should try practicing again & see what these decisions do. This is so wrong. The healthcare system here is so broken in many ways. Price tags on peoples’ lives… is this what they became docs to do?

In the past #shigellosis has predominantly affected children under 4 but there is a recent increase in infections in adults
