El-Sayed is both a post-liberal and an anti-semite. What's more, he has clear ties to the Democratic Socialists of America and to Hasan Piker, a sympathizer of left-wing authoritarian regimes. Supporting El-Sayed does not provide a bulwark in defense of liberal democracy nor against the rise of authoritarianism. It commits one's self to choosing under which hammer liberal democracy takes another blow and to which form of authoritarianism one prefers. An approach to politics that views Susan Collins as someone who needs to be removed but El-Sayed as someone who needs to be supported is not principled in any way, shape, or form. In fact, it's the EXACT SAME approach to politics that gave rise to MAGA and Trump in the first place. You've chosen your enemy, and you will ally yourself with whoever else shares your enemies list. You have embraced a blue-MAGA vs. red-MAGA approach, which is exactly why I pointed out that the Bulwark has become exactly what it set out to be a bulwark against. The challenge to liberal democracy and the threat of authoritarianism is not simply the personage of Donald Trump. It is the political phenomena that allowed Trump to gain power, namely negative partisanship, popular frontism, and populism. And by choosing a "vote blue no matter who" posture, by embedding yourself into a left-wing coalition that includes racists and socialists, and by embracing #resistance...you have embraced and chosen to enable the trifecta of what actually fuels the civic decay and political disorder that is happening, not just in America under Trump, but across Western Civilization under both right-wing AND left-wing post-liberalism.
