In Owen Jones’s The Fall of the West, history is a morality tale in which Western elites do things and everyone else has things done to them.
I’ve written about historical determinism, selective evidence and the consolations of certainty

EXC: The Green Party’s membership has dropped by 18,000 since May, internal figures leaked to me show.
That’s a drop of 8%, with every 1% loss of members resulting in an annual income loss of £110k, party officials estimate.
It means spending adjustments will be required in the 2027 draft budget.
A party source blamed the Zionism is Racism motion for ‘undeniably alienating people’.
Hw figures opposed to the motion have expressed reluctance to form their own group to counter the influence of Greens 4 Palestine, believing the appearance of factionalism will create further division and put off voters.

One of the most insane videos I've seen.
American-Jewish comedian who describes himself as pro-Palestine is attacked at his show by a woman who believes all Jews are evil.
This antisemitic garbage has become totally normalised. Social media brain rot!

Using Israel as an argument against proportional representation is misleading.
Its electoral system is unusual, with no local constituencies or vote for individual candidates.
PR isn’t one system. We can have fairer elections and strong local representation.

Damn but Aston Villa were superb today. Jackson is an Emery machine. Cash was a terrier. Gomes and Kamara superb. Lindelof excellent. Subs were perfection. Put a tenner on Emery 2.0 to win it all.

It’s important to not lose sight of what Mehdi Hasanabi, Barry Baloney, the head of the fucking NEU and Owen Buffer Zone Jones are trying to minimise here.
This is a national scandal. An unacceptable situation for British children to be facing.
And they’re trying to bury it.
Replying to @daverich1
For example: *every pupil* in a class at a Jewish school visited by the review had personally experienced antisemitism on their journey to or from school. That class is not exceptional. If this was about racist abuse towards black children, Jones would not try to downplay it.

Please can @TheGreenParty make this person their official spokesperson for all matters?
'If only you were talking about the environment as much as you were Zionism!'
@BenKentish puts it to a Green Party councillor that any brand issues the party face are 'totally self-inflicted'.

We occasionally look into trolls on our timeline. The latest is 'TribalFusion001,' known to his friends at Southend PSC as Graham Franklin. Unsurprisingly, Graham believes 'little hats' run the UK, supports Hamas, and claims it is not a terrorist organisation.

If she wants all people to live together in peace; why did the Green Party ban Standing Together from their conference.
The panel included Palestinians, one from Gaza, yet they weren’t allowed to hold their event.
And why, has no journalist asked them about this?
Responding Rachel Millward, co-deputy leader of the Green Party, told Jewish News:”This video is from the Green Party 2025 conference when we made a symbolic red line along the beach, to call an end to the bloodshed in Palestine.
“It is my heartfelt desire that all Palestinians be free, and all people – Jews, Muslims and Christians – in that territory can live in freedom and equality. I have been clear that I do not support the call for a single state solution – I do not believe it to be our place to dictate the outcome of any peace process.” jewishnews.co.uk/green-party… via @jewishnewsuk

If a right wing commentator posted a 16-tweet thread trying to dismiss and undermine an official report into any other type of racism, Owen Jones would be the first to call them racist. But when it comes to antisemitism, he is first in line with the 'debunking'. What a hypocrite.

Zack Polanski only appears to cite antisemitism in two contexts.
There's the antisemitism that happens to him (real, terrible)
And there's the antisemitism that the rest of the community speaks about (apparently deserving of denial, disparagement or conspiracy theories).

You realise that people can see your past comments, right?
I am saddened and shocked by Alice Edward's article published today in the @Telegraph and the extent to which it misrepresents my work and that of the special procedures system she was part of until July 2026.

Collectively, we have been unequivocal: Any sexual harassment and violence committed against women and girls on and since 7 October 2023, including hostages in captivity, are grave crimes. Survivors deserve to be heard, and perpetrators must be held accountable. I have said so before, and the full record of my engagement is here:
ohchr.org/en/press-releases/… ; ohchr.org/en/press-releases/… & ohchr.org/sites/default/file…
Ms. Edwards claims that I have never condemned the reports of violence, including sexual violence against women and girls on the 7th of October, and that I have hidden behind Israel’s refusal to grant me entry. Both these claims are incorrect. My statement outlining my engagement on and since the 7th October 2023 makes it clear that I have made several démarches to gain access to primary information, survivors, witnesses, and first responders. As I told the General Assembly on 8 October 2026, the first time a former hostage approached me was in June 2026 at the Human Rights Council. I have since met her and am handling her case under the established procedure open to every victim; where each step is subject to her full and informed consent.
Ms. Edwards also leaves out the fact that when she invited me to join her allegation letter relating to the events of 7th of October 2023, I reviewed it in good faith and made written suggestions on 3rd December 2023. In my feedback, I also asked to see the primary information and testimonies Ms. Edwards had received - a normal request between mandate holders. She declined without explanation, which was the first and only time I have been denied such a request during my mandate. Contrary to me, she did not invite me to any further engagement on Palestine and Israel after that, nor share any information on any related action she may have taken.
Statements such as these only serve the wider efforts to discredit rapporteurs, including rapporteurs that criticize Israel for its serious human rights violations. They serve to dismiss every UN finding of Israeli violations of human rights and international law as being biased against the State of Israel.
Ms. Edwards should understand this better than most. Since 2024, she herself was publicly accused of bias against Palestinian victims, and even endured calls for her dismissal.
Ms. Edwards knows all too well how stressful it is to have your impartiality questioned. Every one of us is doing our best for victims, whoever they are, and wherever they live. The current President of the Human Rights Council was emphatically clear that mandate holders must be able "to carry out their responsibilities free from personal attacks, intimidation or undue pressure." That included Ms. Edwards when she was a rapporteur but is also expected of her today in her current engagement with rapporteurs (since her resignation as a rapporteur).
