Civil servants have been integral to helping the UK navigate the challenges we have faced in recent times. This government must end the tradition of treating the civil service as a political punchbag. Read more from @mikeclancy1 on civil service reform. prospect.org.uk/news/this-go…

2/2 "A serious reform agenda must start not from blunt headcount targets, but from an appraisal of the specialist skills needed in areas like and data, and a realisation that the current pay system does not compete with the private sector for these skills"

UK politicians have been watching DOGE in the US with interest- but we should all be wary of importing this model to our shores. Indiscriminate attacks on public services and regulations aren't going to end well for America. My latest for @CSWnews: civilserviceworld.com/profes…

Important report from @IPPR that highlights that a lack of resourcing for specialists and regulators in government will hinder the government’s growth mission if not addressed.
🧱 | NEW REPORT: Instead of stripping back planning regulations to 'get Britain building,' this new report from @msingerhobbs argues we need a stronger, better resourced, planning system. ippr.org/articles/strategic-…

For the President of the United States to be making baseless, prejudiced, comments about dedicated air traffic professionals at this time is utterly deplorable. We at @ProspectUnion send our solidarity to ATC colleagues in the USA and everyone affected by this tragedy.
Solidarity to colleagues in the USA affected by the terrible collision in Washington DC The immediate conjecture and criticism of the background & ability of Air Traffic Controllers at the very highest level within the US is something we deplore Statement from our @ATCOsBranch

Investing in digital technology including AI is essential to modernise government, and this review recognises that there should not be a trade-off between people and technology: we need both. We look forward to engaging with government on how to implement this plan.
We're shaking up how we use tech to improve public services. For too long, antiquated processes have held the country back. Overhauling digital services will speed up delays for citizens and stop admin wasting their time. This is our vision for a modern digital government.

The civil service has had a decade of systematic and ideological pay cuts, especially in comparison with private sector and lacks a strategy for pay progression and specialist pay. thetimes.com/uk/politics/art…

Prospect will be working to support any members affected by these job losses including those whose workloads may increase as a result. We welcome confirmation from the Cabinet Office that it is looking solely at voluntary redundancies cityam.com/cabinet-office-to…

Absolutely - the government has the right to set the size of the civil service but they need to develop a proper workforce plan in consultation with unions instead of relying on blunt targets.
Mike Clancy, general secretary of @ProspectUnion said: "We need a clear plan for the future of the civil service that goes beyond the blunt headcount targets that have failed in the past. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cdek…
