Since the discovery of tomato Systemin in 1991, the world of plant peptides & receptors completely has changed the paradigm of plant cell-cell signaling. It is the true joy to witness the rise of this important research field throughout my career paths😍🌱. 2/2

Plant cells have their own language, & #HHMIInvestigator Keiko Torii has spent 30 yrs decoding it. Her team's new work on the signals guiding stomatal development — & how plants balance that with pathogen defense — could help develop more resilient crops: bit.ly/4hFvOIy

At Peptide Receptor Meeting #PPRM2026. A theme that came back twice is re-evaluation of old published results. We know about ABP1 and the systemin receptor, but there were two other examples today: WAK1 perception of OGs, and BSU1 Tyr dephosphorylation of BIN2 in BR signalling.

It is co-receptor for CEPR1, assigning a function to the last unknown clade of this receptor family. Key regulator of systemic N-demand signalling in plants.
