Citizens, this one trips up even the newspapermen: comprise and compose.
Comprise means "is made up of." The whole comprises the parts: The posse comprises six deputies and one very nervous mule.
Compose means "make up." The parts compose the whole: Six deputies and one nervous mule compose the posse.
The trap is "is comprised of." Plenty of editors still flag it, so play it safe with "comprises" or "is composed of."
Trick: The whole comprises. The parts compose. If "comprised of" is sneaking onto your page, swap in "composed of" and ride on.
