Don’t let @andyburnham forget it.

This is the same Labour Government letting B52 bombers take off from British soil to bomb Iran - while people here at home pay the price of Trump's illegal war in spiking energy prices.
Warm words about ending the war won't cut it - Burnham must end the UK's participation.

After quite a bit of thought and deliberation, I've joined @TheGreenParty!
My hesitation has never been about the principles the Greens stand for, but about my belief that real, lasting change must go beyond party politics.
We can't rely solely on short-term election cycles to deliver the fundamental transformation our world needs.
I believe the real power for change lies with people. In building collective civic power. Demonstrating what's possible and creating the public demand and political mandate for a better future.
Politics should respond to that demand, enabling change rather than determining the limits of what's possible.
But here's the thing... the Greens are already calling for so much of the change we desperately need.
I've been increasingly encouraged by @ZackPolanski and the Greens' willingness to challenge the political consensus on Gaza, climate change, inequality and the need to fundamentally rethink our economy.
At a time when so much of politics is driven by short-term electoral calculations, vested interests and political convenience, that matters more than ever.
My conviction that lasting change must be built from the ground up hasn't changed, but neither should that stop me from supporting a party that's already prepared to challenge the status quo.
We need to build the public demand for a better future, and we should recognise those who are already fighting to deliver it.
That's why I've decided to join the Greens! 💚

Watch, feel her rage, and understand why she proposed ‘Zionism is Racism’.
Watch this.
Lubna Speitan, author of the Greens4Palestine motion “Zionism is racism”, spells out the central obscenity of our age – the grotesque inversion whereby the victims of ethnic cleansing, Apartheid and genocide must constantly fend off accusations from their tormentors that it is they who are the racists.
“We as Palestinians are being silenced and gaslit and vilified [as we] witness the annihilation, the cold-blooded murder of our families, of our people… our children burnt with phosphorus, having to endure amputations with no anaesthetic, having their limbs torn and shredded, their bodies burnt by phosphorus, being starved to death … And to have to sit here … and try to bury my feelings so I can eloquently and diplomatically shield my anger, my rage, my anguish that every Palestinian is feeling, is an insult.” /1

A hastily drafted post following the UK Govt’s decision to approve further drilling & production at the Jackdaw gas field in the N.Sea. Please excuse typos, non-sequiturs, etc - I wanted to get the post online today.

We have just experienced our hottest summer on record.
It is unfathomable that the government would approve another gas field in the midst of a climate emergency.
The government has put the profits of fossil fuel giants over the future of our children. Beyond shameful.

Respectfully @SangitaMyska I disagree with your analysis BELOW
I am a Jewish Green and I was present for the debate which was conducted politely. I was impressed by the arguments of the Palestinian proposer and the Holocaust survivor who seconded
I think we should consider Zionism from the viewpoint of its victims as we would with, say, apartheid South Africa
Zionism has meant ethnic cleansing, persecution, apartheid, occupations and now GENOCIDE for the Palestinians. Zionism is the ideology which “justifies” this. It is clearly racism
As for the political fallout, it is clear that the Establishment have tried hard and in bad faith to use this to destroy Polanski like they did to Corbyn
I hope - and expect - the Establishment will fail and Polanski and @TheGreenParty will emerge stronger
The Establishment must not be allowed to dictate what the Green Party says and does

The Govt saying we must drill more fossil fuels so we can use the tax revenues to fund the green transition is about as logical as a doctor telling you to smoke 2 packs a day to raise the money for your lung transplant
You don’t put out a fire by pouring on more fuel 🔥#Jackdaw

By the end of this Parliament, Labour will likely have approved:
1. Jackdaw
2. Rosebank
3. Third runway at Heathrow
These week cumulatively make it practically impossible for the UK to meet is Paris Agreement targets.
It will simultaneously likely have:
1. Cut the budget for national insulation/Warm Homes campaign to fund increased defence spending;
2. Slashed the UK's contribution to the UN's Green Climate Fund by 45%, reversing funding pledge made by Rishi Sunak (already happened).
We just had a summer of extreme heat and wildfires; next year is likely to be worse.
This is a war on the environment, waged because Labour simply refuses to tax and redistribute wealth, and is wedded to a totally broken and outdated concept of national rather than human security.
Madness.
NEW: Government is expected to approve the Jackdaw gas field tomorrow, per three sources

This is one of the most basic measures the Labour Government could have taken to make taxation fairer.
Once again this Labour Government is showing they'll side with wealth and power rather than everyone struggling right now.
🚨 BREAKING 🚨 Chancellor Healey rules out CGT rise.
That's bad news for a former Mayor of Manchester who famously once said “we have overtaxed labour and undertaxed wealth."

The idiot’s guide to states – and their ‘rights’:
1. States exist. Some 200 of them.
2. States are the political arrangement in which a people express their self-determination. That arrangement can and does change.
3. States enjoy rights, but only against each other. They have the right, for example, not to face unprovoked aggression from another state.
4. No state has some enduring, abstract “right” to exist. Otherwise bad ones like apartheid South Africa would be unreformable.
5. Peoples, by contrast, do have a right to exist. That’s why states that commit apartheid, ethnic cleansing and genocide are so gravely violating international law. Because they are violating a people’s right to exist.
6. When people argue Israel has a “right” to exist, they are trying to dupe you into believing international law is fine with apartheid, ethnic cleansing and genocide. It isn’t. For obvious reasons, international law prefers the rights of peoples over those of states. Otherwise, no state could ever be illegitimate. Its rights would trump those of the people it rules over.
7. When someone refuses to agree that Israel has a “right” to exist, they are not being antisemitic, whatever the media keeps telling you. They are upholding international law: the precedence of peoples’ rights over those of states.
8. The claim that Israel has a “right” to exist is not what it seems. It’s really the claim that the current reality of extreme inequality between Israelis and Palestinians be set in stone. It’s the diabolical claim that Israel has a right to commit apartheid, ethnic cleansing and genocide against the Palestinian people.

The past 20 days have marked one of the most monolithic pushes by British media to vilify the Zionism is Racism Green Party motion.
Imbalanced coverage would be an understatement.
The papers wrote 447 articles on the Greens' Zionism vote. Israel, pro-Israel groups and the Chief Rabbi got 12,133 words. Palestinians got 3,173.
Any institution that parades as a "news outlet" can no longer be taken seriously if it covers this motion without also covering the people, Palestinians, who have endured, suffered and been oppressed the most by the ideology in action.
What the figures show:
• Israel's government alone got 3,904 words. More than every Palestinian put together.
• 2,422 of the 3,173 Palestinian words came in stories tying Lubna Speitan, the Palestinian who proposed the motion, to al-Qaeda.
• Apart from Lubna, two Palestinians were quoted across 436 articles, for 76 words between them. Nobody in Gaza, the occupied West Bank or Lebanon was quoted at all.
• Lubna told the Telegraph that 56 members of her family had been killed in Gaza. One article mentioned it: the Telegraph's own al-Qaeda story, in paragraph 44 of 51.
• Lubna has received death and rape threats since the vote. Al Jazeera reported it. None of the 447 British articles did.
• 43 articles said, in the paper's own voice, that the motion meant the destruction or abolition of Israel. The motion calls for one state with "equal rights for all".
• 36 headlines said antisemitism. Not one of 447 said genocide.
• 304 of the 436 articles we read in full never mentioned the genocide at all.
• 0 of 89 comment pieces backed the motion.
• The Daily Mail ran 38 articles on the motion, and in that time, just 2 on Israel's ongoing attacks across Gaza, the West Bank and Lebanon.

Ed has never threatened the Labour Party with non-cooperation for facilitating and enabling a genocide, arresting pensioners for holding signs, or overseeing new restrictions on the right to peaceful protest... despite being the Party of civil liberties. Why is that?
Seems to me the whole political establishment is telling on itself. A motion is a red line, but genocide isn't.
