Are #gbbo candidates who can’t summon up a “family” helper less brilliant or a less worthy baker? So smug

Heart-breaking and enraging to hear this: A woman is found dead in a bin bag in a park in Liverpool. Nearly two weeks later, she's still not identified and more than FORTY possible names have been put forward to the police. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/clyq…

🔊In December 2022, the Taliban’s Minister of Higher Education, Nida Mohammad Nadim, made this statement:
“Even if they drop an ato🍁mic b🍃o🌿mb on us, they cannot make us change our decision.”
He was talking about the ban on girls’ education and women’s rights in Afghanistan.
Five years later, that decision still stands.
Millions of Afghan girls remain locked out of school.
Afghanistan is the only country in the world that officially bans secondary and higher education for girls.
This is not culture.
This is not religion.
This is sex apartheid.
The world must not look away.

Today in Scotland a woman is so unsafe in her own home she might be killed by the man who claims he loves her. Today dozens of women will be raped and carry the trauma for the rest of their lives. Today hundreds of children will cower as their mothers become another domestic abuse statistic. If they survive, they will carry the psychological scars forever. It does not have to be this way. We can all do something right now to end this. Stand with us and say It’s Time…..
I do understand that I have become way too old to exist in this modern world, yet I still struggle to accept “to early retire” as a verb. “When we early retired…” “Are you looking to early retire?”. It’s much like “medalling” I fear

🚨💔A heartbreaking message from our students:-
Please read and share
“Today, August 15, I cried until my eyes could no longer see clearly, and my heart felt shattered into pieces.
Inside my home, I could hear the Taliban and their supporters celebrating this day as if it were a day of independence.
But no one heard my crying or my pain.
Five years have passed. Five years of fear, deprivation, and stolen dreams. I have completely lost hope because nothing has changed for us in these five years.
When will we, Afghan girls, finally have the right to live, learn, and hope for a future again?”

“I share this story not to elicit pity, but because the voices of Afghan women deserve to be heard.”

Please read and share messages from WDI Afghanistan member from inside Afghanistan:-
"🔊To the governments, international organizations, and world leaders who have the power to act:
🙏If even these words do not wake you up, what will?
💔For five years, Afghan women and girls have been stripped of their most basic human rights.
🚨The Taliban officially say that girls’ education is against Islam. They say women who leave their homes to study are not “good” women. They say girls’ education is a Western and “un-Islamic” culture.
They have used these claims to shut millions of Afghan girls out of secondary schools and universities.
🚨This is the deliberate destruction of girls’ futures.
And the world must stop treating it as normal."
So it’s finally out there - Post Office executives were paid bonuses for each of their Sub-Postmasters they managed to get convicted. That’s how private prosecutors frequently work - whether on the trains or elsewhere. Their denials made them look more dishonest to me and others.

8 years old! Unspeakable. Who are these men (and boys)? What makes them think this is acceptable?
8 years old and in a public park. Shameful.
The assault happened on Monday. Officers say they are following a positive line of enquiry, but we need more than that. This has to stop.
We’ve said time and time again that this is an emergency situation now. We need leaders and those in positions of responsibility to take action, as this is becoming constant.
This same news source reported today that a 17-year-old male had been arrested in connection with the alleged rape of a teenage girl in Kirkintilloch on Monday.
So that is two children, that we are aware of, who were allegedly sexually assaulted on the same day. It is utterly disgraceful.
We hope both girls are receiving all the support and care they need.

Today on a day meant to honour reporters, @yaldamoayeri, one of the most talented members of Iran’s journalism community, learned that she was given a 15 year prison sentence for her work.
Journalism is not a crime. Thanks to Yalda, we’ve learned about the morality police’s activities in Iran, early anti-mandatory hijab protests, women’s sports and more. She brings us these stories with a raw intimacy. We’ve all learned so much about Iran due to her work and this intentional dismantling of the press is a disservice to us all.
I’m sharing with you some statements that Yalda shared publicly, along with some of her work that has been deeply impactful.

Scotland has just done something quietly brilliant for its birds 🐦
New buildings across the country will now have to include "swift bricks", hollow bricks built straight into the walls that give birds a safe place to nest.
It sounds like a small thing but it isn't. Swift numbers in the UK have fallen by around 60% since the mid-1990s, and one of the biggest reasons is heartbreakingly simple: modern buildings have nowhere for them to go. Swifts have always nested in the nooks and gaps of our houses, and as those disappeared, so did they.
The birds themselves make it worse by being loyal to a fault. Swifts return to the exact same nest site year after year, having flown thousands of miles from Africa to get there.
When they arrive to find it sealed up, some will keep flying at the spot again and again, sometimes injuring themselves in the process.
The bricks cost about £30 each. They need no maintenance, they don't affect insulation, and once they're in the wall, you'd never know they were there. Sparrows, starlings and house martins use them too, all species in trouble for the same reason.
One RSPB conservationist put it starkly. In his part of Glasgow, not a single swift bred in 2025, the first time in his 30 years there. He called it "nothing short of heartbreaking."
Scotland is the first country in the UK to write this into law. Campaigners are now hoping the rest follows.

While the world watches the war, the Islamic Republic of Iran hanged a 19-year-old boy today.
His name is Erfan Esfandiari and he was his parents' only child.
He did not kill anyone. He did not carry a weapon. His crime, according to the Islamic Republic, was opening a door. Sheltering protesters who were running from security forces. That was enough to send him to the gallows.
Erfan was one of 12 young men in the Alikhani Square case in Isfahan, arrested during the January 2026 uprising. Yesterday, all 12 were moved to quarantine. Today, the Islamic Republic hanged him.
This is a government that is so terrified of a generation that refuses to be silent, that it executes teenagers for the act of compassion.
Say his name. Because the regime is already trying to erase him. Because his mother and father are left with nothing, not even the right to grieve loudly.
