Options update: $COUR ๐ข +16%
Entered Jan'27 $5 calls (x4) at $0.71, now at $0.82 (+$45).
Thesis: Pale Fire Capital just crossed the 10% ownership threshold in Coursera, going from a passive 5.8% holder to an active reporting insider in two buys over two weeks. That's conviction, not noise โ zero puts open on the name (P/C ratio 0.000) confirms almost no bearish positioning right now.
Small early gain, staying in per the plan โ stop and TP1 unchanged.
โ ๏ธ Not financial advice. My real portfolio, shared for transparency.

๐ซ Your โbottom fishing a dying consumer defensiveโ framing doesnโt really survive contact with the underlying business. $COUR isnโt a consumer defensive. It is a technology/learning-platform business spanning Consumer, Enterprise, professional credentials, workforce skills and the combined Coursera/Udemy ecosystem. Preferring Mag 7 for Q4 is a perfectly valid allocation choice โ but that is very different from demonstrating that Coursera is a dying company.
๐ The latest reported quarter produced $298.6M of revenue, $42.7M of adjusted EBITDA and a 14.3% adjusted EBITDA margin. Adjusted EBITDA increased materially year over year; management raised its margin expectations and accelerated the expected synergy run-rate to at least $85M by year-end 2026. Yes, Enterprise NRR at 91% needs repairing and normalised growth has been weak. Those are legitimate bear points. But โareas requiring improvementโ and โdying businessโ are two completely different propositions.
๐ฐ The balance sheet matters too. Coursera reported $982.2M of cash, cash equivalents and marketable securities at 30 June with essentially no conventional debt. Some of that capital has since been deployed into the LearnVector investment and buybacks, so nobody should pretend $982M is the exact current figure. But this is not a company fighting for liquidity, refinancing debt or struggling to keep the lights on. It has substantial financial flexibility.
๐ Then look at the denominator. Coursera authorised a $500M share-repurchase programme and had already repurchased roughly 27.1M shares for about $150.4M through July. Those shares are retired. That is an actual reduction of the outstanding share base โ not just management talking about shareholder returns.
๐ค The strategic direction is also evolving. Project Helix is designed as an #AI-native enterprise skills platform linking skills discovery, personalised learning, practice, assessment, verified capability and business outcomes. The combined #Coursera/Udemy ecosystem brings roughly 30,000 instructors and content partners. The thesis is no longer simply โsell more online courses.โ It is increasingly about becoming infrastructure for workforce capability, skills verification and enterprise AI-era training.
๐ฆ And ownership has become particularly interesting. @PaleFireCapital didnโt simply say COUR looked cheap โ it committed capital. It disclosed purchases of 1,332,742 shares on 25 September at $5.0639 and another 1,000,000 shares on 29 September at a $4.6062 weighted average, taking its reported holding to roughly 28.81M shares. Its disclosed position has been built progressively through 2026. That is serious institutional sponsorship during weakness.
โ๏ธ None of this means COUR has nothing left to prove. Enterprise retention needs to improve, normalised growth needs to reaccelerate, and Helix eventually needs to convert strategic architecture into commercial economics. That is the real debate. But reducing the entire situation to โbottom fishing a dying consumer defensiveโ ignores the cash-rich balance sheet, improving adjusted profitability, synergy capture, share-count reduction, AI/workforce-skills repositioning and substantial institutional accumulation.
๐ And the tape is beginning to respond. COUR closed around $5.18, up 3.19% today, after bouncing from the recent low area. One session doesnโt define the thesis, but stabilisation matters when the underlying evidence is materially more nuanced than the headline suggests.
๐ฏ Mag 7 may have an excellent Q4. Fine. But that doesnโt make every non-Mag-7 opportunity irrational. The actual question is whether COUR is being mispriced relative to its liquidity, operating leverage, denominator repair, institutional sponsorship and AI-enterprise optionality. Thatโs a much more interesting discussion than drawing a 12-month red line on a chart and declaring the company dead. #swazcharts

Coursera sits at a 52 week low, down 90% from its post-IPO peak. Left for dead.
But Pale Fire Capital, a 10% owner, just bought $11.4M of $COUR at $5, with almost no selling against it.
Someone's buying what everyone else gave up on. ๐

๐๐ STOCK WHALE WATCH: $COUR ๐๐
๐ฅ A WHALE JUST BOUGHT ANOTHER $11.35 MILLION OF COURSERA NEAR ITS 52 WEEK LOW.
But the $11M isn't the crazy part.
The crazy part is how aggressively @PaleFireCapital has been building this position.
Beginning of 2026: Essentially ZERO shares
March: Roughly 10.5M
June: Roughly 20.4M
Now: 28.8 MILLION shares, about 11% of the company
๐ September 25: 1.33M shares at $5.06
๐ September 29: 1M shares at $4.61
๐ต Fresh buying: $11.35M
๐ฏ Average price: About $4.87
๐ TRANSACTION TYPE: OPEN MARKET BUYING
This wasn't compensation.
This wasn't a financing.
They went directly into the market and bought another 2.33 MILLION shares.
And @dusenn is one of the reporting owners behind the position.
๐ NOW CONNECT THE DOTS:
@coursera recently completed its combination with @udemy.
Together they now reach roughly:
๐ฅ 290M learners
๐ข 18,000 enterprise customers
๐จโ๐ซ 95,000 instructors
And they combined at a very interesting moment.
AI is changing what millions of people need to know to stay competitive at work.
Coursera is trying to become one of the places where the world learns those new skills.
๐ฅ BUT HERE'S WHERE THIS GETS JUICIER:
Management says integration execution has accelerated enough that it expects at least $85M in annual run rate synergies by the END OF 2026.
That's not years away.
That's roughly three months from now.
And Coursera raised its full year revenue outlook to $1.22B to $1.245B while increasing its adjusted EBITDA margin target to about 14%.
๐ AND THERE'S ANOTHER BUYER:
The company itself.
Coursera authorized a massive $500M share repurchase program.
By late July it had already repurchased more than $140M.
So you potentially have TWO serious buyers taking shares off the market:
๐ A major shareholder accumulating aggressively
๐ข The company buying back its own stock
And the whale is doing this while the stock is beaten down.
That timing matters.
๐ฅ THERE'S ALSO AN AI CONNECTION I REALLY LIKE:
Coursera recently invested $100M into LearnVector, the new AI learning company founded by Coursera cofounder Andrew Ng.
So this isn't just management talking about AI because AI is popular.
They're putting serious capital behind building the next generation of AI powered learning.
And on September 9, Coursera announced Project Helix, its new AI native learning platform.
Now connect everything:
๐ Whale building an 11% position
๐ฐ Another $11.35M bought near the lows
๐ข $500M company buyback authorization
๐ค Udemy combination completed
๐ต $85M synergy target by year end
๐ค $100M Andrew Ng AI investment
๐ง New AI native platform already announced
That's a much more interesting picture than simply saying an education stock fell 60%.
๐ WHAT COULD BREAK THE THESIS:
The Udemy integration still has to work.
Revenue needs to hold up.
AI education is becoming extremely competitive.
And even an 11% whale can be wrong.
๐ POSSIBLE CATALYSTS:
๐ฅ More whale buying
๐ฅ More company buybacks
๐ฅ Q3 earnings and updated guidance
๐ฅ Progress toward the $85M synergy target
๐ฅ Project Helix rollout
๐ฅ LearnVector developments
๐ฅ AI reskilling demand
๐ฅ Evidence the combined platform is actually improving profitability
๐ฏ THE PART I KEEP COMING BACK TO:
@PaleFireCapital didn't wait for the turnaround to become obvious.
It built roughly 28.8 MILLION shares while the stock was getting crushed.
Then it came back and bought another $11.35 MILLION.
If the Udemy savings arrive on schedule and Coursera starts proving that its massive combined user base can become an AI reskilling platform, this whale may have accumulated BEFORE the financial turnaround became visible.
That's exactly the kind of timing I want to watch. ๐๐

Just entered $COUR (Coursera) with calls today. Here's why ๐งต
Pale Fire Capital SE just crossed the 10% ownership threshold. They held 5.8% since March, then bought aggressively in two separate purchases โ 1.33M shares on Sept 25 and 1M more on Sept 29 โ pushing them to 28.8M shares (10.9%) and turning them from a passive holder into a reporting 10%+ insider. That's a much stronger signal than a routine buy; it means every future move they make now has to be disclosed.
๐ What confirms the signal:
โ IV rank at 88% (elevated, but the setup justifies it)
โ Cash/debt at 50x โ no debt
๐ต The entry:
4 contracts CALL $5.0 exp. 01/15/2027 (107 days to expiration)
Cost: ~$280
๐ Risk management:
๐ Stop -60% โ $0.28
๐ฏ TP1 x2 โ $1.40 (selling 75%)
An insider going from 5.8% to over 10% ownership in two weeks is real conviction, not noise โ that's why I sized up on this one.
Will keep you posted on how it plays out.
