Imagine being cancelled so badly that you end up leaving your own country to rebuild your career somewhere else. 😭
Remember Ji Soo, the actor who starred alongside Kim So-hyun in River Where the Moon Rises? His career was taking off, but in March 2021, everything changed almost overnight.
People claiming to be his former schoolmates began accusing him of bullying, physical violence, intimidation and demanding money from other students. As more allegations surfaced, the controversy exploded.
Ji Soo released a handwritten apology, expressing remorse for his past misconduct and apologizing to those he had hurt.
But the timing was terrible. He was the male lead in a historical drama that had already filmed 18 of its 20 episodes.
The production team replaced him with Na In-woo and had to reshoot previously filmed episodes. Imagine being so close to finishing a major drama, only to lose your role and have the entire production disrupted by a scandal.
Things became even more complicated when separate sexual-crime allegations surfaced. Ji Soo disputed those allegations and later maintained that the sexual-assault claims were false. His apology for past misconduct should not be mistaken for an admission to every accusation made against him.
By May 2021, he and his agency, KeyEast, had parted ways. He subsequently stepped away from the Korean entertainment scene and completed his military service through alternative social service.
And the fallout didn't end there.
The drama's production company pursued compensation from KeyEast over the additional costs caused by the reshoots. In July 2026, the case reached its final outcome after KeyEast withdrew its appeal, with the agency ordered to pay approximately 880 million won plus interest.
But here's something many people don't know: Ji Soo didn't completely give up on acting.
He eventually began rebuilding his career in the Philippines, signing with talent agency Sparkle and appearing in local productions, including Black Rider. By September 2026, he was promoting his role in Taskforce Firewall.
So, the actor who once had a promising future in Korean dramas is now pursuing opportunities in another country's entertainment industry.
His story is a reminder of how quickly a career can change when serious allegations surface. Ji Soo lost his leading role, his agency relationship and his place in the Korean entertainment spotlight.
He may be acting again, but his career is taking a very different path from the one he had before 2021.
