The unspoken thing here is that the jaw drop is not actually due to the scale of the dust plume but specifically because it is happening in New York. The same video taken in Beirut or Tehran would never get the same reaction from the viewer.
Even after 25 years, my jaw still drops every time I see this clip.

Truly the nerve of this low level little thug
“Parents in villages have only the government hospital to take their child to when they fall ill. Those hospitals must have the necessary medicines. The President has no right to tell people to drink coriander and stay at home. If the President thinks drinking coriander and staying home is enough, and that hospitals therefore don’t need medicines, that itself shows the mindset of the person governing this country.” — MP Namal Rajapaksa

Is it social policing to prohibit alcohol at a children's event? I continue to believe that no one in this country gives a damn about the safety and wellbeing of children.
Without prejudice to both sides on the debate, some general principles: (1) Alcohol and secondary school should *not* mix. (2) At ages 30+, men should seek a primary identity outside their childhood school. (3) A govt should prioritise its election promises before social policing

But what about the Sri Lankan man's god given right to get drunk, act the fool and be a general menace to society?
The Government has announced a complete ban on the promotion and use of alcohol and drugs at any event organised using a school’s name or logo. Under the new directive, any event using a school’s name or logo will be considered a school event and will be subject to the prohibition. Education Ministry Circular No. 2026/10 empowers the Secretary to the Ministry of Education to immediately prohibit any event found to be violating the directive. Officials said the measures were introduced following repeated complaints from parents that students were being exposed to alcohol and drugs during major cricket encounters involving leading schools. “Any event representing a school or using its logo is prohibited from promoting drugs and alcohol. An event held using the school logo is a school event, and no intoxicating substances should be used at such an event,” an Education Ministry official said. The ministry said the directive will be strictly monitored, including at major school cricket matches. (Newswire)

Every time I try to make a phone call on @dialoglk I have to listen to a 60-second recording about my credit limit and bill payment before my call goes through. What an incredibly useful function. Which genius thought of this?
